ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR 2015
NICI JEFFERSON HANKS
CLASS OF 1991
Needless to say, Nici is known for being a very hard working Neville Tiger! She is the chairman of the membership committee for NAFA and is always looking for ways to encourage all Neville Grads and loyal friends to join us in our efforts to keep our school ON TOP!!
She begins this work by being the most active of young mothers, having served as president of the Lexington PTO, Sallie Humble PTO (presently) and is a board member of the Lee Junior High Boosters with her oldest daughter cheering as a 7th grader. With all of these activities, she also has been the membership chair of NAFA for the past 4 years and NAFA has seen a tremendous increase in membership under her leadership. Nici is also a member of the Tiger Scramble Golf Committee and headed up the first annual Tiger Scramble Bash event; all this while holding down a full time job.
Nici was an award winning Bengal Belle while at Neville and has grown up a Neville Tiger throughout her life being the child of Neville grads, Dana Tucker ’66 and Steve Jefferson ’62. She along with her siblings, Becca ’94 and Tucker ‘2000 spent every Friday night of their lives at Ruple Stadium and still cheers on the Tigers with her voice and with her actions. Nici is the wife of Woody Hanks and the mother of Sarah Beth and Mary Carter, future Neville Tigers!
Congratulations, Nici! Your Neville Family is very proud of you!
Nici was nominated by Mandy Giffen Fritzer ’71, Alum of the Year 2005.
ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR 2015
KATHY SHAVER HART ‘66
Nominated by Susan McElroy Weaver ’69 Alumnus of the Year 2009
The Class of 1966 will celebrate its 50 year reunion in 2016. One of its brightest members has stayed doggedly faithful to her alma mater for all these years.
Kathy Shaver Hart is the consummate English teacher. She taught in the parish system for nearly 40 years, but she spent every football Friday night at Neville Tiger stadium along with her husband Scott. Kathy and Scott support the Neville team not only by their presence, but if the boys need anything within their power to supply, the Scotts are there for them. Coach McCarty and his staff know they can rely on Kathy and Scott for their team needs.
Since her retirement from teaching, Kathy can be found each August in the ticket office selling season tickets. She has also served countless hours assisting the NAFA Executive Director with school tours, and reunions. Her help with the annual Educators’ and Students’ Excellence Banquet each February has been invaluable. Kathy is also called upon to proof each issue of our Neville Matters magazine and any other document needing attention as per our principal, Mrs. Martin!
We are proud to honor her tonight with this plaque to declare her loyalty and devotion to her alma mater!
Congratulations, Kathy! The Neville Nation is proud to call you their own.
2015 FRIEND OF THE YEAR
Nominated by Kathy Shaver Hart ’66 & Jeff Gregory ‘95
Neville High School is very fortunate in having many loyal friends. None of them work harder voluntarily than Jim Gregory!
After being mentored by the late great Coach Van Leigh in the intricate and time consuming job of organizing and selling season tickets for us, he stepped into the job with his whole heart! This is one of the hardest and most thankless jobs around! Jim handles it with the ease and good nature he exudes from every pore. This past year found him struggling with the pain of rheumatoid arthritis but it didn’t stop our Jim! He makes sure that every Neville fan gets his tickets with courtesy and a smile.
Jim and his lovely wife, Frances, have sent us three outstanding Tigers, Brian ’91, Jeff ’94 and Ann ’04. His grandchildren are following the Neville tradition with a freshman cheerleader on board this year! When NAFA first began the cosmetic landscaping project to enhance our beautiful building, Frances and Jim stepped up to donate the brick wall on the student’s patio in memory of their son, Brian. They also initiated a scholarship in his name through NAFA which goes every year to a student pursuing a career in social studies or government in Brian’s memory.
Jim is the kind of friend everyone wants to have and we at Neville value his constant loyalty and support.
Congratulations, Jim! Thanks for all you do and continue to do here at Neville!
FRIEND OF THE YEAR 2015
COACH MICKEY MCCARTY
Nominated by Linda Nordan Sanders, Friend of the Year 2007
When a truly good man comes into your life, you know it! In 1996-97 a young man joined our Neville Family and has become known throughout Louisiana as the finest coach and mentor anywhere. Mickey McCarty graduated from another school across town, but his heart and soul belong to us now!
As his nominator quoted, “Coach McCarty is the best coach teacher her son ever had”. He is best at a lot of things, primarily bringing together a staff of excellent coaches and leaders to produce winning football teams year after year. His record since becoming Head Coach and AD is 142-32 in 13 seasons with 3 state championships. Mickey was named Louisiana Football Coaches Association Class 4A Coach of the Year 2014. He is an outstanding teacher, coach and mentor to all students, girls and boys. His role as sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes speaks volumes to his character and to his faith.
Mickey McCarty together with his sweet wife, Toni, principal of Lexington Elementary and his precious son, Jacob, has become the main cog in the wheel of Neville.
We wish tonight to show our sincere appreciation and love of our own Coach Mickey McCarty! Congratulations Coach! We love you, Tiger!!
