JUMP START makes high school more relevant.

  • You will attain industry credentials that employers value when deciding who to hire for entry-level positions;

  • You will complete Introductory Career Essentials courses where you will master workplace “soft skills” that help them find good jobs and succeed when they report to your first jobs;

  • You may complete internships (either workplace internships or “virtual workplace experiences”) during high school that teach you about the world of work;

  • You will complete course work that enables you to continue your education, through employer training, technical college courses and eventually (if you want) at a four-year university.

 TOPS Money is Available for CTE graduates!

High school students in Louisiana have access to funds from the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students, or TOPS. In order to qualify, you must graduate a high school and THEN attend either one of the Louisiana Public Colleges and Universities, schools that are a part of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, Louisiana approved Proprietary and Cosmetology Schools or institutions that are a part of the Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. You must follow one of two high school graduation pathways to have access to TOPS funds.

 Louisiana’s Two High School Diploma Pathways

  1. TOPS4  - University Pathway – this is designed for students who plan on attending a four-year college or university, and requires you to complete coursework that will qualify them for TOPS scholarships.

  2. TOPS2 - Jump Start Pathway – for students interested in preparing for college and career, requiring students:

    1. to complete coursework that prepares them to continue their education at a technical or community college; and

    2. to earn industry credentials that will help them attain entry-level employment. Students must obtain ONE credential in their chosen pathway before they graduate!
