Elizabeth wants to turn her diary entry into a fictional short story. Which BEST identifies a structural change that would turn this nonfiction account of her trip into a fictional short story? A) describing the setting in greater detail, especially Niagara Falls B) adding dialogue between Elizabeth and her family members C) adding an imaginative conflict between Stevie and Elizabeth D) including the names and descriptions of people other than herself and her family

Answers

Final answer:

To turn a diary entry into a fiction story, Elizabeth could detail the setting (like Niagara Falls) for better immersion, introduce dialogue for character depth, and implement a conflict (such as between Stevie and Elizabeth) to drive the plot.

Explanation:

To transform a nonfiction diary entry into a fictional short story, such as Elizabeth's account of her trip, the writer could implement structural changes primarily targeted at heightening the narrative's depth and engaging quality. The following three potential revisions serve as good starting points:

Detailing the Setting: Focusing particularly on areas of high interest such as Niagara Falls. A vivid portrayal of the location enhances the story's immersive quality, providing a sense of time and place and making the narrative more engaging. Incorporating Dialogue: Adding conversation between Elizabeth and her family adds depth to characterization, contributes to the plot's progression, and increases tension. Dialogue also improves the narrative's authenticity, offering readers an opportunity to intimately experience the scene and characters. Introducing Conflict: Implementing a creative conflict, perhaps between Stevie and Elizabeth, adds a critical layer of drama and interest to the narrative. This tension could serve as the central plot point of the short story, driving character growth and narrative development.

What is the meaning of the central idea?

The central idea is the central, unifying element of the story, which ties together all of the other elements of fiction used by the author to tell the story. The central idea can be best described as the dominant impression or the universal, generic truth found in the story. Therefore, the central idea statement should avoid using the names of characters.

Central ideas reflect the discoveries, emotions, conflicts, and experiences of a story’s main character. They are commentaries about the way the world works and or how the author views human existence. Central ideas are supportable. The central idea or theme of a story is an author’s comment, usually implied, on the subject of his narrative.

PART A: What point in the story reflects the climax of the wife's greed?
10 points
O
When she asks to become king
When she asks to become emperor
When she asks to become pope
O
When she asks to have power over the moon and sun

Answers

Final answer:

Determining the climax of the wife's greed in the story depends on the progression of her desires, with the peak likely being her wish to have power over the moon and sun, symbolizing ultimate power.

Explanation:

The climax of a character's greed, particularly in stories with a moral or lesson about the consequences of such greed, is typically the point where their desires reach the highest peak, often leading to their downfall or a significant change. In the context provided, without the specifics of the story or character progression, it's challenging to pinpoint the exact moment that reflects the climax of the wife's greed. The options given suggest a progression of power from being a king to an emperor, then to a religious authority as a pope, and lastly to a supernatural level, where she desires to have power over the very elements, the moon and the sun. This last desire to control celestial bodies could likely symbolize the peak of her greed, as it represents an impossible and ultimate form of power.

Our community has done a wonderful job of creating and participating in forward-thinking eco-centered recycling programs for many years. It’s time we took the next step and considered community composting. We’ve done a great job with paper, aluminum, glass, and plastic, but now it’s time to address food waste head on. The latest data shows that of the millions of tons of food scraps discarded every year, only a small percentage—less than 6 percent—is kept out of landfills. It’s time that we joined the thousands of communities nationwide that are composting locally rather than exporting the waste to be processed somewhere else.

Benefits of the program are endless. Besides the reinvestment of money back into the community, community composting supports local farmers, creates sustainable jobs, and builds community spirit. Let’s focus on our green future and start the process now. Attend the town council meeting tonight and join the discussion.

Attributing someone's research work to yourselfPresenting this work or idea as yours, with or without their consent.Lastly, incorporating these works or ideas into your work without full acknowledgement.

Answers

As the puppies ran ,wrestlers ,and played together, their mother watched them closely to keep them safe

Final answer:

The correctly punctuated sentence is 'As the puppies ran, wrestled, and played together, their mother watched them closely to keep them safe.' It demonstrates proper use of commas in a series without causing a run-on sentence.

Explanation:

The sentence punctuated correctly is: As the puppies ran, wrestled, and played together, their mother watched them closely to keep them safe. This sentence uses the Oxford comma, which is placed before the coordinating conjunction in a list of three or more items. There is no need for a comma after the conjunction 'and' before 'played' or after 'played' before 'together'.

Understanding correct punctuation is critical in ensuring sentences are clearly understood. Run-on sentences can result in confusion and need to be corrected by adding appropriate punctuation, such as a period, a semi-colon, or a coordinating conjunction along with a comma. This sentence does not contain a run-on issue, as it correctly employs the use of commas to separate items in a series.

Atticus Finch defends Tom Robinson to the best of his abilities. He defends his client just as well as he would a paying white man, even though it causes social ridicule in Maycomb. In Chapter 9 of To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout asks her father about the trial. Some of the kids at school had been criticizing Atticus for taking the case. This makes Scout angry, and she asks her father why he is defending Tom Robinson. Atticus explains his reasons to her:

"For a number of reasons," said Atticus. "The main one is, if I didn’t I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again."

Even before the trial, Atticus knows that the Tom Robinson case will have an impact on him personally. He tells Scout this. Atticus knows that it is highly unlikely that he will even win the case. Tom has been accused of raping a white woman, which had people in Maycomb enraged. They find it especially appalling that a black man would do such a thing to a white woman. Despite this, Atticus plans to fight hard. He feels that he should put all of his efforts into the case, despite the improbability of him winning it.

Teresa’s house was destroyed when Hurricane Michael hit Florida. The memory of how she had to run back to the house to rescue her dog keeps coming to her mind even though she very much wants to get rid of that memory?

Answers

She is most likely experiencing persistence in memory.

Explanation:

Teresa's house was destroyed in the hurricane which was named as Michael. This hurricane came in Florida and led to huge loss of life and property there in Florida.

But one memory that is still hitting Teresa's mind hard was how fast she ran to save the life of her dog who was tied inside the house only to protect him from any damage and injury. This is known as the persistence of the memory because this is something she can not forget.

Final answer:

The question regarding Teresa's haunting memory after a hurricane relates to themes of trauma and personal narrative in English literature, illustrating how significant events leave indelible impressions on our lives and shape our personal stories.

Explanation:

The student's question about Teresa's recurring memories after her house was destroyed by Hurricane Michael touches on themes of trauma, memory, and personal narrative, which are elements commonly explored in literature and personal writing.

Often in literature, characters experience a lasting impact from traumatic events, much like the unseen environment mentioned in the provided passage, which becomes more real than the material fact of the house. Similarly, Teresa's memory of rescuing her dog during a hurricane has left an indelible mark on her, causing persistent recollections despite her desire to forget.

These experiences highlight how certain moments can define our lives, as expressed in the excerpt discussing the notion that 'it is the high moments that make a life, and the flat ones that fill the years.' Whether it's the devastation of Hurricane Katrina or the poignant relationship between a firefighter and his dog, such events can carry heavy emotional weight and influence our memories and narratives for years to come.

He suggests that, like St. Prokop, civilization harnesses the evil of greed to accomplish "good" economic results. Based on what you have read here, does this argument make sense?

Answers

Answer:

This argument makes sense.

Explanation:

The invisible hand is a concept associated with the economy that refers to the ability to generate economic (or social) goods through an individual who works for himself and generates those goods in a way that these goods are available to society unintentionally, since you don't care about anything but yourself.

Taking into account that this concept states that some people can generate good situations for society through a selfish and evil reason, we can agree that the argument shown in the question above makes sense.
