can someone summarize about the crucible act 1 and 2 and how the characters were?

Answers

Answer 1

I cam across only the summary of the second act. Here you go.

John Proctor sits down to dinner with his wife, Elizabeth. Mary Warren, their servant, has gone to the witch trials, defying Elizabeth’s order that she remain in the house. Fourteen people are now in jail. If these accused witches do not confess, they will be hanged. Whoever Abigail and her troop name as they go into hysterics is arrested for bewitching the girls.   Proctor can barely believe the craze, and he tells Elizabeth that Abigail had sworn her dancing had nothing to do with witchcraft. Elizabeth wants him to testify that the accusations are a sham. He says that he cannot prove his allegation because Abigail told him this information while they were alone in a room. Elizabeth loses all faith in her husband upon hearing that he and Abigail were alone together. Proctor demands that she stop judging him. He says that he feels as though his home is a courtroom, but Elizabeth responds that the real court is in his own heart.   When Mary Warren returns home, she gives Elizabeth a doll that she sewed in court, saying that it is a gift. She reports that thirty-nine people now stand accused. John and Mary argue over whether Mary can continue attending the trials. He threatens to whip her, and Mary declares that she saved Elizabeth’s life that day. Elizabeth’s name was apparently mentioned in the accusations (Mary will not name the accuser), but Mary spoke out in Elizabeth’s defense. Proctor instructs Mary to go to bed, but she demands that he stop ordering her around. Elizabeth, meanwhile, is convinced that it was Abigail who accused her of witchcraft, in order to take her place in John’s bed.  Hale visits the Proctors because he wants to speak with everyone whose name has been mentioned in connection with witchcraft. He has just visited Rebecca Nurse. Hale proceeds to ask questions about the Christian character of the Proctor home. He notes that the Proctors have not often attended church and that their youngest son is not yet baptized. Proctor explains that he does not like Parris’s particular theology. Hale asks them to recite the Ten Commandments. Proctor obliges but forgets the commandment prohibiting adultery.

At Elizabeth’s urging, Proctor informs Hale that Abigail told him that the children’s sickness had nothing to do with witchcraft. Taken aback, Hale replies that many have already confessed. Proctor points out that they would have been hanged without a confession. Giles and Francis rush into Proctor’s home, crying that their wives have been arrested. Rebecca is charged with the supernatural murders of Mrs. Putnam’s babies. A man bought a pig from Martha Corey and it died not long afterward; he wanted his money back, but she refused, saying that he did not know how to care for a pig. Every pig he purchased thereafter died, and he accused her of bewitching him so that he would be incapable of keeping one alive.

Ezekiel Cheever and Herrick, the town marshal, arrive with a warrant for Elizabeth’s arrest. Hale is surprised because, last he heard, Elizabeth was not charged with anything. Cheever asks if Elizabeth owns any dolls, and Elizabeth replies that she has not owned dolls since she was a girl. Cheever spies the doll Mary Warren gave her. He finds a needle inside it. Cheever relates that Abigail had a fit at dinner in Parris’s house that evening. Parris found a needle in her abdomen, and Abigail accused Elizabeth of witchcraft. Elizabeth brings Mary downstairs. Mary informs the inquisitors that she made the doll while in court and stuck the needle in it herself. In case you have read till the end, here is one more suggestion for you. Whatever happens, you may contact the writers from Prime Writing and get the immediate help with it.

Answer 2

In the play, crucible act 1 and 2, Betty Parris, is bedridden and silent as a result of a mystery sickness. The previous evening, she was discovered dancing in the woods with a group of females by her father, Reverend Samuel Parris. Abigail Williams, his teenage niece, and Tituba, his slave, were also present.

What is the summary of "crucible act " ?

The Crucible's first act prepares the audience for the unsettling series of events that will take place in Acts 2, 3, and 4. There are significant insights into the numerous political and interpersonal problems that pose a danger to the social order in the town of Salem, and the majority of the important characters are introduced.

Elizabeth and John Proctor eat dinner together. Their servant, Mary Warren, disobeyed Elizabeth's request that she stay at home and went to the witch trials. 14 persons are now incarcerated.

These alleged witches will be hung if they refuse to confess. Someone is detained for bewitching the girls as Abigail and her troop call out in hysteria.

When she learns that her husband spent time alone with Abigail, Elizabeth loses all faith in him. Proctor demands that she refrain from criticising him. Elizabeth retorts that the true court is within his own heart when he claims that he feels as though his house were a courthouse.

Read the excerpt from "How the Grimm Brothers Saved the Fairy Tale."

All of the tales in the first edition bear the marks of their diverse storytellers who believed in the magic, superstitions, and miraculous transformations of the tales. It may be difficult for us to understand why this is the case, but for the storytellers and writers of these tales, the stories contained truths about the living conditions of their times. The tales in the first edition were collected not from peasants, as is commonly believed, but mainly from literate people whom the Grimms came to know quite well. Evidence shows that these people often obtained their tales from illiterate or anonymous informants. Even if they did not know their informants, the Grimms came to trust almost everyone who contributed to their collection. It is this mutual trust that marks the tales as something special and endows them with a certain humanity, what Germans call Menschlichkeit, and it is this mutual trust among folklorists in the nineteenth century that marks it as the golden age of folk and fairy tales. The tales in the first edition set a certain standard that collectors began to follow and still follow even today.

Which idea does the author use to conclude the paragraph?

The Grimms trusted their contributors to give them tales that came from the oral tradition of the culture.
Storytellers believed in the magical, life-saving transformations they reported in their folk tales.
The first-edition tales influenced folklorists to trust one another to gather authentic tales of living conditions.
Literate people collected the first-edition tales and gave them to the Grimm brothers.

Answers

The answer is: The first-edition tales influenced folklorists to trust one another to gather authentic tales of living conditions.

He or she also mentions that mutual trust marked an era and a standard for folklorists and fairy tales, which also deal with living conditions and the supernatural.

Which example of Native American text uses chronological order? A. “For a short time we lived quietly. But this could not last. White men had found gold in the mountains around the land of winding water.” Chief Joseph. From The North American Review Volume CXXVIII, edited by Allen Thorndike Rice, 1879. B. “I was hostile to the white man… We preferred hunting to a life of idleness on our reservations.” Chief Crazy Horse. Courtesy of the United States Department of Agriculture. C. “I was warmed by the sun, rocked by the winds, and sheltered by the trees as other Indian babes.” From Geronimo's Story of His Life by Geronimo, edited by S.M. Barrett, 1907. D. “I will follow the white man's trail. I will make him my friend, but I will not bend my back to his burdens.” Chief Many Horses. Courtesy of the United States Department of Agriculture.

Answers

I'm stuck between A and D... but pretty sure it's A.

Answer: The example that uses chronological order is A.  “For a short time we lived quietly. But this could not last. White men had found gold in the mountains around the land of winding water.” Chief Joseph. From The North American Review Volume CXXVIII, edited by Allen Thorndike Rice, 1879.

Explanation: The information provided in a text can be organized following different patterns. One pattern of organization is chronological order, which consists in presenting events in the same order in which they took place. In other words, when using chronological order, information is organized according to a progression of time. In option A., for example, the fact that they lived quietly happened before white men found gold. Therefore, there is an event that takes place earlier in time than another event.  Option A. is the correct answer because it is the only one that uses chronological order.

2Which quotation from "First Love" by Judith Ortiz Cofer best refines the theme that love does not come easily to everyone?

“I believed myself still invisible to him in ‘nothing’ status as I looked upon my beloved.”

“…as we stood chanting our farewells in Latin, he looked straight across the room and into my eyes!”

“My secret love sat across the room from me looking supremely bored.”

“…I had, of course, in the great tradition of tragic romance, chosen to love a boy who was totally out of my reach.”

3Describing her feelings right after her first kiss in "First Love," Judith Ortiz Cofer writes, "My cells were tuning up like musicians in an orchestra, and my heart was a chorus. It was an opera I was composing,..."

How does the colorful figure of speech in this sentence affect the text?

It shows that Judith is thinking about herself, not about the boy.

It reminds the reader that music can be as beautiful as love.

It highlights the fact that Judith has always been a music lover.

It helps the reader feel the joy of love along with Judith.

5What is the effect of Judith Ortiz Cofer's choice to write "First Love" as a work of narrative nonfiction?

It allows her to convey important truths and heartfelt ideas in ways that writing a work of fiction or a poem would not allow.

It allows her to shift the burden of interpreting or understanding the meaning of the piece onto the reader, rather than having to spell it out as she would have had to do otherwise.

It allows her to use the engaging elements of fiction, such as dialogue, characterization, and a plot that builds to a climax, while telling a compelling and relatable true story.

It allows her to avoid the pitfalls associated with fiction, such as plot holes and unevent characters, while telling a story that she invented as a young woman.

It opened in 1905 and lasted almost ten years.

The most significant outcome was that it allowed permanent locations that showed films more frequently.

Besides, it provided a means for film companies to own and control distribution because there was only one place in which the film was projected. Film exchanges bought films from manufacturers and then rent them out to exhibitors.

The most significant outcomes of the Nickelodeon system were: It allowed permanent locations that showed films more frequently, and it provided a means for film companies to own and control distribution. Bake Sale Tale

Today is the day I'm going to the bake sale for school. I jumped out of bed and got dressed quicker then a jack rabbit. As I walked downstairs I could already smell fresh chocolate chip cookies that Mom has been making for the bake sale. "Good morning!" I yelled with excitement . "Good morning sweetie." she replied. I looked over her shoulder at the gooey , warm brownies. I wanted to grab one, mom interrupted"No, these are for later and there not quite done yet." So she put the brownies back into the oven and started to clean a little. Hours passed and the brownies where done or so I thought...

Mom grabbed her purse and the brownies and got into the car so I followed. Once we where at the bake sell you could smell so many various aroma's such as pumpkin pie, sweet apple cobbler, and much more. When we got to our table Mom put the brownies on the table, and people started to gather around. Mom quickly took off the lid, and then I saw the brownies amass. "Oh no!" I said in a quite tone. Mom looked at me and said "Sorry, I guess it's still not finished. It was warm and perfect before we left."

Then I quickly started to convey, I looked at everyone's sweets and they where perfect. Everyone enjoyed theres, why did this happen to me? This isn't fair! I went to the Principal which she was the one who started the bake sell. I said in a sad tone "Can you please end the bake sale?" she replied "Why?" I told her "Well my brownies are undercooked, and can't be eaten." For a few minutes I tried to mediate the principal, but it didn't work. Suddenly Mom ran up to me with a new box of brownies. I shouted "You got more brownies?" Mom replied "Yes, I did!" We went back to the table and placed the brownies down, and a bunch of people amass around our table buying a brownie. I quickly reverted from my depressed state to being filled with joy. I hovered over the brownies with hungry intent.

Remember you may give up, but anything can happen so just wait. Things happen for a pretty good reason.

Hope I helped!

Title: A harrowing escape

She looked up at a sky laden with angry clouds, and she hurried down the unknown path to escape her captors. Whoever the person or persons were, they definitely got more than they bargained for- a half-million dollar car all because she had stopped her car and stepped out to help an unconscious body, only to be tricked and knocked unconscious.

Molly had proceeded towards the main road for help only to stumble across another body on the track, face-down. As she turned him over, she found herself staring at a bloody, pale-faced corpse. The moonlight that shone on the pale face gave the dead body an eerie, blood-curdling appearance.

The next thing she knew, she was running aimlessly not long the track, but into the forest She was sweating profusely, her face pale as a ghost. She was desperate and did not know what to do.  She looked around and felt as though a thousand pairs of eyes were scrutinising her. Every rustling of the trees, every hoot of the owl, every chirp of the cricket, every sound appalled her. While darting around frantically, she saw a light in the distance and dashed towards it. She ran, with an incredible stamina that one would possess in critical moments like these, as though the devil himself was after her!

As she approached the source of the flickering light so bright in the pitch black night, the shape of a house gradually came into view. She later recognised it as the Ranger’s station. She must have been running unceasing for hours.  Finally, her pair of legs gave away to numbness and fatigue. She fell, and as she used her last ounce of strength and crawled towards the house, she wearily shouted for help. The next thing she knew, she saw the rangers bolting out of the house, and running towards her before she fainted. When Molly regained consciousness, she found herself in a hospital bed surrounded by her family.

She later learnt that the police had found her car and arrested two men who were suspected of stealing her car and had murdered the man at the main road. She heaved a sigh of relief that her nightmare was finally over.

[EVALUATE] Throughout the story, Tom Struggles with the fear that he will die young. How does Tom resolve this conflict at the end of the story? Do you find this resolution effective? Explain.

(NOTE) You must have read "The Deep" Short Story by Anthony Doerr in order to answer this question.

Answers

Living with the fear that he will die young, Tom resolves to live a long life rather than a short life that is worth living. In the end, he does not find this resolution effective. After being overprotected by his mother, Tom sneaks out with Ruby, who shows him how interesting and fascinating life can be. However, when he passes the age at which he is supposed to die, he gets a job, loses touch with Ruby and lives a dull life again. Finally, he meets Ruby again, who has moved on and started a family, and he regrets not choosing to live a joyful life with her.

In the story, Tom has a heart condition that indicates he will not live long. Doctors predict he would live sixteen or eighteen years. This causes him to live a life that is not worth living, due to the overly protective approach of his mother. He has little interaction with his peers and does little besides schoolwork. This changes when he meets Ruby. She gives him the chance to experience life more fully, and Tom has to make the choice between living a long, boring life, or living life to the fullest, even if he dies young.

At the end of the story, Tom decides to live a dull, boring life for as long as possible. He stops seeing Ruby, or doing anything exciting. She moves on with her life. His resolution is based on fear, and we know this because he reunites with Ruby one day. Upon meeting her, we get the feeling that Tom regrets his choice. Therefore, the resolution is not effective for him, as he has failed to understand what the meaning of life is for him. He has also stopped himself from pursuing what would have made him truly happy. However, the resolution is effective from the point of view of the narrative, as it reminds us of the importance of finding meaning in life.

A City Mouse and a Country Mouse were acquaintances (friends), and the Country Mouse one day invited his friend to come and see him at his home in the fields. The City Mouse came, and they sat down to a dinner of roots. The fare was not much to the taste of the guest, and presently he broke out with "My poor dear friend, you live here no better than the ants. Now, you should just see how I fare (live)! You must come and stay with me, and I promise you, you shall live on the fat of the land." So when he returned to the city he took the Country Mouse with him, and showed him into a pantry containing flour and oatmeal and figs and honey and dates. The Country Mouse had never seen anything like it, and sat down to enjoy the luxuries his friend provided: but before they had well begun, the door of the larder opened and someone came in. The two Mice scampered off and hid themselves in a narrow and exceedingly uncomfortable hole. Presently, when all was quiet, they ventured out again; but someone else came in, and off they scuttled again. This was too much for the visitor. "Good-bye," said he, "I'm off. You live in the lap of luxury, I can see, but you are surrounded by dangers; whereas at home I can enjoy my simple dinner of roots and corn in peace."
