Describe family life in the 1950s. How did most Americans view christianity and church?

Answers

Answer 1
Family life in 1950's- the whole family lives and works on a farm unless in urban areas. In that case they stay in crowded uprise buildings with a full family house ( since families married than and had more kids). Families were just starting to buy Ford cards and be able to road trips and vacations every now and than. Thr father was still the maij breadwinner with the mom being the house upkeeper who watched fed and taught that children. Families would have Sunday church services where everyone wore their best dress- despite how poor they might be. Computers weren't part of every day life than and hadn't even been invented but the antique telephones that you had to turn that numbers instead of dial existed. Letters were still the most relevant and cheapest form of communication among families. Newspapers were still read by the father at the table every morning. Every family member was obligated to sit at the table and endure family meals- "brad eat those vegetables".

And most families in America viewed christianity and church as they were taught- to fear God and repent of sins. But of course not every one was religious and even then their were different religions and beliefs.

A "quarantine" of Cuba, as it was termed by President Kennedy.
In an address to the nation in October 22, 1962, President Kennedy told of surveillance that revealed Soviet missile sites were observed as part of military build-up in Cuba.  He said he would demand that the USSR remove all offensive missiles from Cuba or the US would place Cuba under a "quarantine."  A more usual term normally would be a "blockade," but Kennedy avoided that loaded term because that could be interpreted by the USSR as an act of war.

What were the three motives that encouraged Spain to explore the americas ?

Answers

Final answer:

The motives of God, glory, and gold drove Spanish exploration of the Americas. The spread of Christianity, the search for wealth through mercantilism, and pursuit of national glory were the primary drivers.

Explanation:

Three main motives known as God, glory, and gold encouraged Spain to explore the Americas. The desire to spread Christianity and counter the influence of Islam was a significant religious rationale driving the Spanish. In a period marked by the strong Catholic faith of Spanish rulers like Ferdinand and Isabella, the conversion of indigenous peoples was of paramount importance. The economic motive known as mercantilism also spurred exploration. This sought to accumulate wealth through trade and the acquisition of gold, silver, and other resources. Finally, national glory and the ambition to enhance Spain's position in Europe through the expansion of territories and the establishment of colonies, were also influential motives. These colonies would not only serve as sources of wealth but also as symbols of Spain's growing power and prestige.

Which of the following laws, passed in 1973, represents an attempt by Congress to limit the president’s power as commander-in-chief?

Answers

The correct answer is the War Powers Act. (also known as the War Powers Resolution of 1973). This act limited the president's power as commander-in-chief because Congress now had more control over the deployment of the US military.

In this law, the president is required to give Congress a 24 hour notice if he/she plans on sending troops to another country or territory. This action must only be used by the president in cases where Americas security is at risk. The president can keep the troops there for 60 days. If the president cannot get Congress to declare war/approve of the troop placement, then the president has 30 days to have the troops removed.

Select these as the answers that apply:

He began to end strict censorship of ideasHe started to support reforms that weren't related to the communist system  He began to pursue trade and arm agreements with the west

Mikhail Gorbachev began his new strategies in the Soviet Union in 1985.  He proposed perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (openness).  These seemed like policies that leaned in the direction of Western ways of economics and politics, rather than being related to the traditional communist system. Perestroika meant allowing some measure of private enterprise in the Soviet Union.  Glasnost meant allowing a bit of freedom in regard to speech and publication.  Gorbachev also developed a relationship with US president Ronald Reagan and worked on arms agreements with the West, as well as pursuing trade opportunities.

B. The spreading of people of African descent throughout the world due to forced migration

C. The population of Africans who were captured and taken to Europe in the fifteenth century

D. The voyage from Africa that carried enslaved Africans to the Americans

Answer:

B. The spreading of people of African descent throughout the world due to forced migration

Explanation:

"'The African Diaspora'

The transatlantic slave trade led to one of the largest global, forced migrations in history. During the slave trade, around 12.5 million Africans were displaced from their homes and sent to the Americas to work on tobacco, cotton, and sugar plantations. In addition, there were many Africans who were forcibly taken to Europe in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. As a result of these forced migrations, populations of people of African descent grew in both Europe and the Americas. These populations became known as the African Diaspora. Depending on where these populations lived, they had very different experiences integrating into their new societies." (PF World History L3 PDF, pg. 38)

Written confirmation supporting that answer B. [The spreading of people of African descent throughout the world due to forced migration]  is CORRECT.
