how can readers identify details that support a central idea in an informational text
Think of a time when you were extremely nervous to be in front of a group of people. Describe in detail what you did to cope with this anxiety. What did you learn from this experience that will help you next time you are in a similar situation?
I stood at the front of the class, ready to present my project. I awkwardly looked down, not liking the way everyone looked at me. When the teacher gave her signal, I turned towards the board behind me. It felt much better to talk this way; I didn't know whether eyes were on me or not. I could picture myself practicing my presentation in the mirrior this morning, nobody else in the room besides me. This was so much better than what I thought it would be like. Once done, everyone applauded as I sat down in my seat. For now on, I decided, I will picture myself alone rather than in front of a group of people when proposed with similar situations.
There was a time when I had to present a final project from school. This project had been successful inside my classroom and my teacher asked me to present it in front of all the high school as a part of a special scholar event. I felt happy and proud of myself, but at the same time, I experimented nervousness and anxiety of being in front of so many people.
I followed some advices to cope with anxiety:
Think yourself as an expert: By doing this you will encouraging yourself to explain everyone what you are supposed to do; by the same time, doing this will allow you to feel more confident with who you are and what you know.Always look forward: Try to don’t think only in what are you saying, thinking and how do you look like; instead of that focus your attention on the people that are watching and earing you; analyze their gestures and act in order to make them feel comfortable and relaxed because, without realizing, you will be feeling the same way. Before presenting, define what you want to feel: To define inside what is going to happen and how you will be feeling about it could help you to feel less anxious and nervous, this due to you will be feeling that you have already experimented that situation at past.Be yourself: This part could sound obvious, but it is important because if you want to act as another person everything will be harder to you; it is better to be who you are and express those things that you believe in.
What did I learn from my experience that will help me next time I am in a similar situation?
Following those 4 things, I will feel better when I must be in front of a huge audience because to know how to deal with my emotions is always helpful. Thanks to my past experience I learnt that I have to improve my self-esteem and I need to train my oral speech abilities. I’m sure that everyone has, at least by one time, felt social anxiety, but we all can try to change it in order to improve our social speech’s skills. I will try to remember my past advice to feel more comfortable and even been capable of enjoying my act.

In "A Cub Pilot," after Twain realizes that the others are testing his confidence and courage, he says, "It was a fine trick to play on an orphan, wasn't it?"
How does Twain's use of the word "orphan" affect the memoir?
It shows that Twain also thinks the prank the others played is very funny.
It indicates that Twain's father is Mr. Bixby.
It conveys how Twain feels alone, with no one looking out for him.
It demonstrates that Twain still does not realize that he is the victim of a joke.
Answer:
It indicates that Mr.Bixby is Twain's father
Explanation:
Answer:
In this excerpt from A Cub Pilot, Twain's use of the word orphan affects the memoir by conveying the reader how he feels alone, with no one looking out for him. The correct answer is the third one.
Explanation:
I chose this answer because, although the excerpt itself doesn't say anything literal about it, the use of the word orphan gives a sensation of sadness, of loneliness. Twain doesn't say anything to the others, but the connotation of the word orphan is not a happy one; it gives the reader the feeling of Twain being lonely, with no one near, maybe of him feeling an outsider.

Does any know the answers to why it matters that teens are reading less
The decline in teenage reading is alarming because reading nurtures cognitive and emotional development. Despite teens' preference for physical print, comics, and the rise of digital entertainment, important cognitive abilities and cultural engagement are at risk. The NEA reports decreasing trends in reading literary works, affecting cultural and civic life.
It matters that teens are reading less because reading enhances cognitive development, encourages empathy, and lays the foundation for success in academic and professional settings. The decline in teenage reading habits raises concerns over their ability to engage with complex texts that are crucial for understanding intricate thoughts and arguments, which are essential skills not just in academia but in real-life situations such as comprehending legal documents and engaging with civic duties. Moreover, this trend suggests a potential shift in cognitive abilities and emotional development, as reading literature has been historically linked to fostering deep thinking and emotional intelligence. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) reports alarming declines in literature reading among young adults, with the potential to impact cultural and civic life significantly. Comics and graphic novels, though popular among youths and incrementally beneficial to literacy, are often undervalued in literary studies, possibly leading to a devaluation of young readers' interests and a discouragement of reading habits. It is also noteworthy that despite an increasingly digital world, surveys indicate a preference for physical print amongst children and teens, and the consumption of comic books, magazines, and similar materials can serve as a gateway to more substantial reading materials.
Furthermore, the rise in internet use has been associated with greater levels of anxiety, attention deficit disorder, and depression in teens, which may further detract from the appeal and benefits of reading. The issue is compounded by the busy lifestyle of modern adolescents, who must juggle multiple responsibilities and distractions such as part-time work, social activities, and digital entertainment, leaving little room for literary engagement.

Which of the following is not an example of ethos?
sentence 9
sentence 10
sentence 12
sentence 13
Answer:
13
Explanation:
Final answer:
The correct option is sentence 12 A guest speaker opens with a joke that elicits laughter from the audience. Ethos is a rhetorical appeal that establishes a speaker's credibility. Three examples given – a politician discussing experience, an engineer in a commercial, and a lawyer citing expert testimony – illustrate ethos, while a speaker opening with a joke represents pathos, appealing to emotion rather than credibility.
Explanation:
Ethos is a rhetorical strategy that establishes the credibility or authority of the speaker. When we refer to ethos in a speech or argument, we are looking at how effectively a speaker convinces the audience of their competence, trustworthiness, and dynamism. Examples of ethos include talking about one's own relevant experience or expertise on a subject, citing credible sources, and by demonstrating personal commitment and ethical stance.
In the provided scenarios:
A political candidate discussing their military and business background is establishing ethos by highlighting their experience and competence.
A truck commercial that includes an engineer talking about the model they designed uses ethos by leveraging the engineer's expertise.
A lawyer referring to a forensic scientist's testimony utilizes ethos by citing a credible source.
However, a guest speaker opening with a joke is not an example of ethos; this aligns more with pathos, as it appeals to the audience's emotions rather than establishing the speaker's credibility.
In conclusion, the joke told by a guest speaker to engage the audience is not an example of ethos because it doesn't contribute to the speaker's credibility but instead attempts to connect with the audience on an emotional level.

The Case against Women’s Suffrage
by Clark Benson
2The women and children of America need leadership and protection. Who better to protect and serve our families than the men found at the head of each American household? Women should keep their rightful place in the home and men should discourage women from the imprudent notion of gaining the right to vote. For the sake of our offspring—and the general welfare of our nation—I implore our nation’s lawmakers not to grant women's suffrage.
3As the heads of their households, men are tasked with obtaining employment, managing finances, and making prudent family decisions (Eastman 165). Women have their roles as well; however, those roles should be limited to domestic duties and raising offspring. Numerous noteworthy women have even enumerated reasons why females should not attain suffrage (Andrews F12). Eunice Madison, journalist for Happy Housewives, concurs, stating, "It is imperative that husbands come home to well-kept homes, well-behaved children, and well-prepared meals" (Madison 30).
4Women should not be burdened with the laborious task of voting as it may interfere with their wifely duties. According to predominant American psychologist Dr. Hiram Luther, "If women are given the right to vote, their household duties will inevitably be neglected. This will shake the foundation of the American family and, ultimately, lead to its demise" (Luther 372).
5Scientific evidence has proven that women's brains are inferior to men's in the realm of complex thought. According to Dr. Matthew Switzer, a female's brain is significantly smaller than the male’s brain—making women incapable of logical judgment and diminishing their decision-making abilities. Furthermore, Switzer concluded that a man’s brain works more rapidly and efficiently than a woman's (Switzer 149–162). Women, therefore, have an immense disadvantage. Women's involvement in our complex election process will certainly cause catastrophe.
6The men of America must unite to ensure that women are protected. They need to be protected from causing themselves and our children harm by making rash and irresponsible decisions (Carmichael 23). It is imperative, therefore, that every American male speak out against women’s suffrage. Help preserve our nation’s traditions, and protect your family and friends by denying women the right to vote.
