In the book Lyddie, chapter 2. Name two ways that the Stevens family helps Lyddie and Charlie?

Answers

Answer 1

Way 1 - Luke Stevens transports Lyddie and Charlie to the village.

Way 2  - Luke offers to look after their farm and to also look in on Charlie.

Answer 2
Hello! I read this book a couple years ago!

I don't precisely remember what happens in chapter 2, but, Luke Stevens invite them to dinner and offer to drive Charlie and Lyddie in his wagon, and that's when they begin their new jobs (continues in chapter 3). Also, the Stevens buy the calf from them, so they get extra money that way.

I really hope you found this helpful, and this book is amazing! :)

Read this sentence: Squeezing his eyes shut, Ted clutched the armrest as he waited for the dentist to arrive. What method of characterization does the sentence use to describe the character? A. Dialogue B. Appearance C. Action D. Thoughts

Answers

letter c because he was squeezing the armrest and waiting so the answer is C

Answer:

C. Action

Explanation:

Characterization is a literary device that authors use to develop fictional characters in a story through their description. This characterization can be either direct or indirect. When it is direct, writers directly label a character as something or directly mention their traits, and when it is indirect, authors show the character's personality through dialogue, thoughts, behaviors, actions, and appearance.

The given sentence uses indirect characterization to describe the character, more specifically, it is using action because it is describing Ted's gesture while waiting for the dentist to arrive, in other words, it is describing what the character is doing. This description helps us infer something about him and his personality: He does not feel comfortable with the dentist's arrival, or with the waiting on the dentist's arrival.

Read the excerpt from “A Century Ride.”

The result of this confab was that Auntie told two deliberate fibs, one to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie laughed happily and said, “Auntie, let her stay with him; it’s all coming round right!”

Which best revises the excerpt to conform with contemporary language and style while maintaining the original meaning?

A. The result of this discourse was that Auntie spake two deliberate fibs, one to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie chortled merrily and spake thusly, “Auntie, let her stay with him; it’s all coming round right!”
B. Whence this confab was completed, Auntie hied forth with two fibs, one told to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie laughed happily and said, “Hark Auntie, let her stay with him; marry, t’will be fine!”
C. Wherein the result of this confab was that Auntie told two lies anon, one to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie laughed happily and said, “Auntie, let her tarry with him; methinks ‘tis all coming round right!”
D. The result of this chat was that Auntie purposely told two lies, one to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie laughed happily and said, “Auntie, let her stay with him; it’ll all be fine!”

Answers

D. The result of this chat was that Auntie purposely told two lies, one to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie laughed happily and said, “Auntie, let her stay with him; it’ll all be fine!”

Answer: The right answer is the D) The result of this chat was that Auntie purposely told two lies, one to Lizzie, and one to Carr, and Lizzie laughed happily and said, “Auntie, let her stay with him; it’ll all be fine!”

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that the language and style in the other three options is actually even more archaic and literary, with words such as anon, fibs, spake, thusly, hark, tarry, and wherein, just to name a few, as well as too informal, with words such as confab. Option D shows a very straightforward and clear language and style, which conform with contemporary language and style without deviating from the original meaning.

Why does Buck not understand the shock of the club?

Answers

He doesn't understand the shock of the club because he's never felt that before.

Final answer:

Buck in 'The Call of the Wild' is confused by the concept of the club as it represents authority and punishment he has never faced before, marking the beginning of his adaptation to a new reality. Similar experiences of shock occur frequently in literature, compelling characters to confront unexpected challenges.

Explanation:

The question "Why does Buck not understand the shock of the club?" refers to the novel 'The Call of the Wild' by Jack London, where Buck, the canine protagonist, is puzzled by the concept of domination and punishment represented by the club. In Buck's experience, coming from a sheltered background as a pet, he has not been exposed to the harsh realities of survival and authority enforced through violence. This encounter marks Buck's initial step towards an evolving understanding of the power dynamics and brutal reality of the world he has been thrust into. Comparable to Buck's experience, characters in literature are often faced with unexpected shocks that challenge their understanding or force them to reconsider their beliefs, as seen in the various examples provided.

I would go with A. The little girl is preparing her appearance carefully for church, but the church will be bombed.

Answer:

The little girl is preparing her appearance carefully for church, but the church will be bombed.

Explanation:

This is an excerpt from the poem "The Ballad of Birmingham." In this poem, Dudley Randall talks about the bombing of a black church by white supremacists in Birmingham, Alabama. This bombing was shocking for a lot of people, and the poem became very popular. In this stanza, the author describes the careful preparation of a girl who is going to church, and the irony lies in the contrast between her careful preparation and the fact that the church will be bombed.
