Answer:

They were Punishing Confederate households for supporting the war

Explanation:

It is difficult to judge the actions and perspectives of people in the past. As Lula Flannigan describes, Union soldiers sometimes looted households in the Confederacy. Part of the reason for doing this was to break the Confederacy's will to fight. Another probable reason was that the soldiers wanted revenge for having to fight a war. In earlier history, it was very common for an invading army to steal or destroy the goods that were in households.                         ~Props to the other person who got the answer first!~

Why is flat land better for farming

Answers

Arable crops such as oat and wheat require good soils and a warm climate to be grown successfully. To be grown and harvested successfully they require flat land that allows machinery such as combine harvesters to be used.

Flat land is considered better for farming as it allows for easier use of machinery, more efficient irrigation, and requires less labor for cultivation, leading to higher productivity and lower costs.

Flat land is often considered better for farming due to several advantages that it offers. The ease of cultivating crops, irrigation, and mechanization are significantly improved on flat terrain. One of the main reasons is that flat land allows for the uniform distribution of water and easy maintenance of irrigation systems. It also facilitates the use of machinery, which can operate more efficiently and at a lower cost on level ground compared to sloped or uneven terrain. This is particularly important in areas where most land is needed for grain crops to feed people, and there is little land available for supporting livestock.

Moreover, flat land typically requires less labor for tasks such as plowing, planting, and harvesting, allowing for lower labor costs and higher productivity. Good agricultural practices, like fallow planting and contour planting, can further enhance the productivity of flat farmland. In contrast, regions with less arable land, such as mountainous terrains, might use adaptations like terrace farming, which are much more labor-intensive and may not provide the same efficiency as flat farmlands. Notably, prime farmland often has a mixture of flat land, a favorable growing season, an adequate water supply, and rich soil conducive to high yields when managed with modern farming methods.

The implications of flat land on agriculture are evident in the distribution of crop types across various regions. For example, farmers on flatlands west of the 100th meridian typically plant wheat due to climatic conditions, whereas more profitable crops like soybeans and corn are chosen in other flat, more humid areas. As evidenced by agricultural history and modern practices, the topography of land is a vital factor in determining a region's agricultural potential and, by extension, its economy and food security.

Some methods the Incas used to unify their large empire is that everyone had to speak the same language, making communicating easier. Another method was that conquered peoples could still worship their own gods as long as they honored the Sapa Inca. That made them less likely to rebel against not being able to worship their own god(s). The Incas also developed a lot of roads and bridges for traveling, so the government could more easily send messages to people who could be miles away! how many 100 lb wolves can 1000000 lbs of vegetation support

Answers

TRICK QUESTION. wolves are carnivorous, meaning they eat only meat. their prey could live of vegetation so maybe that'd help them but if theres no prey and only vegetation they'd probably starve to death.

1,000,000 lbs of vegetation can support approximately 100 wolves, considering the energy transfer through trophic levels and the 10% rule of energy transfer.

Let's break this down with the following considerations:

Trophic Levels: In an ecosystem, energy is transferred through trophic levels. Typically, only about 10% of the energy from one trophic level is passed to the next. Vegetation represents the primary producers.Wolves' Diet: Wolves are carnivores primarily feeding on herbivores, hence secondary consumers. Herbivores are primary consumers that feed on vegetation.Energy Transfer: To support wolves, we must first support herbivores. If we assume 100,000 lbs of vegetation could sustain 10,000 lbs of herbivores (considering the 10% energy transfer rule), then 1,000,000 lbs of vegetation can support 100,000 lbs of herbivores.Supporting Wolves: Following the same 10% rule, 100,000 lbs of herbivores could theoretically support 10,000 lbs of wolves.Calculation: Since each wolf weighs 100 lbs, 10,000 lbs of wolves would equate to 100 wolves (10,000 ÷ 100).

Therefore, 1,000,000 lbs of vegetation can support approximately 100 wolves.

How does Switzerland produce more than half of the electricity it needs?

Question 3 options:

Switzerland produces power the North Sea.

Switzerland produces power from fast-flowing rivers.

Switzerland produces power from natural gas.

Switzerland produces power from coal.

I don't have much time no joke

Answers

The correct answer is: "Switzerland produces power from fast-flowing rivers. "

Electricity production in Switzerland has become an industry reliant mainly on hydroelectricity. The Alps cover two thirds of the territory of the country, hence, there are many mountain lakes and water reserves suitable for the generation of hydro power.

The water drained from the Alps is mostly used for run-of-the-river hydroelectricity (ROR) generation techniques. This mechanism requires power plants which do not need to store water, or just very small quantities. They contrast with traditional hydro power plants which are dependent on the existence of reservoirs.

Switzerland produces more than half of its electricity needs through the use of hydroelectric power, generated by utilizing the potential energy of its fast-flowing rivers.

Switzerland produces more than half of its electricity by taking advantage of its topography and the abundance of water resources. The key to producing electricity is to turn a turbine, which in turn generates electricity. In Switzerland, they harness the power of fast-flowing rivers to produce hydroelectric power. This method is very efficient and sustainable, considering that it does not produce direct greenhouse gas emissions like burning fossil fuels.

Comparatively, in countries like South Africa, most of the electricity is produced by burning coal, which is a much dirtier process and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Hydroelectric power supplies a significant fraction of the world's electricity and is particularly important in countries like Switzerland, where 55% of its electricity is produced through this method.

To sum up, the correct answer to the student's question is that Switzerland produces power from fast-flowing rivers, which is a clean and renewable source of energy.

Which is one example of a President expanding the executive powers outlined in the Constitution?
   the regulation of commerce
    the Louisiana Purchase
    the federal court system
    the Judiciary Act of 1789

Answers

The correct answer is " The Louisiana Purchase". The ability to buy property from foreign governments was not among these powers listed in Article IV of the Constitution – a fact that his political opponents, the Federalists, were eager to point out to the President Thomas Jefferson. According to Constitution Daily website -  "Jefferson rationalized his decision for the treaty to be sent to Congress without an amendment to John Breckinridge. “It is the case of a guardian, investing the money of his ward in purchasing an important adjacent territory; and saying to him when of age, I did this for your good,” he said in August 1803". Jefferson and his supporters faced an October 31, 1803 deadline to ratify the treaty or lose the purchase. Ironically, the deal to expand federal powers would need to be sold to the Federalists, who had advocated such a position before the treaty was signed, and supported by the Republicans, Jefferson’s party, which had opposed such a broad extension of presidential powers. The debate in the Senate only lasted for two days. On October 20, 1803, the Senate voted for ratification 24-7, and the treaty was signed on October 31, 1803. In the treaty’s aftermath, although some Federalists continued to view the Louisiana Purchase as unconstitutional, the purchase was never questioned in court.

The second alternative is correct.

The American Constitution does not approve the purchase of other countries institutionally. However, President Thomas Jefferson made a treatise on negotiation. And executing treaties is a constitutional power of the president of the Republic.

why American dollar is most powerful currency in the world not others like indian rupees .
Thanks

Answers

Answer - The relative strength of the U.S. economy supports the. It's the reason the dollar is the most powerful currency. As of 2018, the U.S. had $1,671 billion in circulation. As much as half that value is estimated to be in circulation abroad.

The strength of the American dollar can be attributed to multiple factors which establish it as the most powerful currency in the world.

Firstly, the U.S. dollar is widely used and accepted in international transactions; it is the preferred currency for many central banks and is involved in over 90% of the $4 trillion worth of foreign exchange trades conducted daily. Secondly, this dominance originates from the post-World War II era where the United States took on a central role in shaping the international financial system. Lastly, the perceived trust and value of the U.S. dollar, along with its strong purchasing power, benefit consumers and tourists.

Exchange rate regimes and global trust in the U.S. economy play a significant role in the dollar's power. After the gold standard was abolished in 1971, currencies began to derive their value based on trust in the country's economy, and the dollar's perceived strength has remained high.

Whether a currency is strong or not can be advantageous or disadvantageous in different economic scenarios. For instance, importing firms may profit from a stronger dollar due to lower costs of imports, whereas export producers may suffer because their goods become more expensive in foreign markets. A strong U.S. dollar is particularly beneficial to U.S. tourists traveling abroad as they get more foreign currency per dollar, thus lowering the costs of their trips.

Ok I need one paragraph for each and I need examples from the civil rights movement for each one listed below. Structural Conditions Structural strains Generalized beliefs Precipitating factors Mobilization Social control

Answers

Structural conditions refer to the conditions of buildings in neighborhoods. Certain neighborhoods have better structural conditions than others and this affects prices of rent and generally the type of population occupying the area. There are certain neighborhoods where an apartment for rent are very cheap and people of a lower socioeconomic status generally live in the area. The structural conditions of these apartments are generally not as well kept and they have lower structural conditions. An example from the civil rights movement would be the fact that "black" neighborhoods had poor structural conditions and African American people were not allowed to occupy the houses with better structural conditions in predominantly "white" neighborhoods.

Structural strains refer to the stereotypes that one person may perceive certain things about their culture. This affects how they act and how they look at others around them. It can be a predictor on likelihood of committing a crime because the person may feel like that is what expected of them so they might as well do it. The person feels limited to what they know or have grown up with so they have trouble breaking stereotypical barriers placed on them early in life. An example of this in civil rights movement is how the children had to go to schools that had people only of their race. The opportunities at certain schools were limited solely based on race.

Generalized beliefs continues what I was talking about with structural strains. Generalized beliefs are beliefs that are expected or beliefs that the majority of a population has. This can affect people because certain groups of people are viewed better than others.

Precipitating factors are factors that trigger a behavioral response. This word can be used for many different circumstances. It can be used in regards to an illness or an accident. In civil rights time precipitating factors would be protests in response to the civil rights movement. It could also be a protest in response to how African Americans were being treated at the time.

Mobilization is the government making moves to gather the military and prepare them for a certain movement. During the civil rights movement an example of mobilization is when the National Guard was called in to help students as they started to attend schools that were predominantly white. They were called to make sure the peace was kept during this time.

Social control is the conformity of society to follow social norms because of laws or social pressure. During the civil rights movement children that went to school with their own race grew up with this being the norm. They were conforming because of the social pressure from family and friends. Once laws started changing, the law attempted to move social norms to integrate and the citizens were required to abide by the new laws. The laws regarding integrating schools were being enforced by the National Guard which is also an example of social control.

how did the rise of italian city states help lead to the renaissance?

Answers

In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, Milan, Venice, and Florence were able to conquer other city-states, creating regional states. The 1454 Peace of Lodi ended their struggle for hegemony in Italy, attaining a balance of power (see Italian Renaissance).
Final answer:

The rise of Italian city-states contributed to the Renaissance through fostering trade wealth that allowed for patronage of arts and liberal sciences, sparking a cultural revolution. The influx of knowledge from Byzantine scholars and the growth of new principles such as nationalism and equality prompted a renewed interest in classical Greek and Roman ideologies. The advent of new artistic methods like linear perspective and a focus on human potential also molded the landscape of the Renaissance.

Explanation:

The rise of Italian city-states helped lead to the Renaissance in several key ways. These city-states, such as Venice and Florence, had grown wealthy through trade, particularly with the Ottomans. This trade wealth allowed for patronage of arts and liberal sciences, leading to a cultural revolution.

Byzantine scholars fleeing the fall of Constantinople brought with them significant knowledge from the ancient Greeks and Romans which was eagerly received by the Italians. This included the writings of prominent thinkers like Plato and Aristotle, many of which had either been unknown in Europe or known only in Arabic translations.

Furthermore, as Italian city-states grew in wealth and power, they began to foster a sense of nationalism and common goals. These new ideals of equality and patriotism inspired not only uprisings against traditional monarchies and foreign powers, but also a rethinking of cultural traditions and a renewed interest in the glory of the classical Greek and Roman past.

The artists, writers and scholars of these city-states developed new methods of painting like linear perspective and conducted in-depth studies of the natural world, contributing to a new way of thinking that glorified humanity's potential for great accomplishment. This cultural shift had profound impacts on many areas of life during the Renaissance, influencing everything from the sciences to the arts and encouraging a new spirit of exploration.

Thus, the Italian city-states had a profound influence on the progression of the European Renaissance, providing both vital connections to the ancient past and a fertile cultural environment for new discoveries and advancements to unfold.

What caused the rebellion in 1857? How did the British react to the rebellion?

Answers

The immediate cause of the Indian Revolt of 1857, or Sepoy Mutiny, was a seemingly minor change in the weapons used by the British East India Company's troops. The Company had upgraded to the new Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle, which used greased paper cartridges. In order to open the cartridges and load the rifles, soldiers (known as sepoys) had to bite into the paper and tear it with their teeth. Rumors began to spread in 1856 that the grease on the cartridges was made from a mixture of beef tallow and pork lard. Eating cows, of course, is forbidden by Hinduism, while consumption of pork is forbidden by Islam. Thus, by making one small change to its munitions, the British managed to greatly offend both Hindu and Muslim soldiers. The sepoys' revolt began in Meerut, the first area to receive the new weapons. British manufacturers soon changed the cartridges in an attempt to calm the spreading anger among the soldiers, but this move backfired. The switch only confirmed, in the minds of the sepoys, that the original cartridges had indeed been greased with cow and pig fat.
