Why did Anna Quindlen write “A Quilt of a Country”?
A to show why America is a strong country where everyone gets along despite their differences
B to show that despite its differences, America is still a country that unites in times of strife
C to explain how Americans feel when terrorists attack
D to explain how America is many countries in one
Answer:
B. to show that despite its differences, America is still a country that unites in times of strife
Explanation:
The motivation behind why Anna Quindlen stated "A Quilt of a Country" was to indicate how America stays joined even in troublesome occasions. This article was composed amid the outcome of the September 11 assaults, and this was when assorted variety started to be viewed as a crack, or an issue, of a generally solid society.
Quindlen needs to negate this, and she contends that assorted variety is in actuality a quality, and that America is solid in spite of the distinctions of its natives.
Emily dickinson uses personification throughout poem 712. explain what she personified in the poem. then analyze the impact of her use of personification on the overall meaning of the poem
Emily Dickinson personifies death in poem 712, presenting it as a gentle suitor. This use of personification challenges the usual view of death, making it appear less threatening, and indirectly affects the reader's understanding of mortality. It is similar to Desmond's personification of poverty, turning abstract concepts into comprehensible images.
Explanation:In Emily Dickinson's poem 712, she uses personification to give human characteristics to death. The poem starts with death being personified as a polite and civil suitor who takes the speaker for a ride in his carriage. This personification creates a non-threatening view of death and suggests it is a natural part of life's journey, not something to be feared. This can be compared to the use of personification where Desmond uses figurative language to personify poverty. In this way, Emily Dickinson manages to transform abstract and often scary concepts into something relatable and easier to comprehend.
The impact of this personification on the overall meaning of the poem is significant. It offers a unique perspective on the concept of mortality and challenges the reader to reconsider their views on death. The characterization of death as a gentleman creates an intimate, almost comforting image, which differs from the usual view of death as a frightening or negative entity. Hence, the personification used in the poem influences not only tone but also the theme and overall interpretation.

B. The power of nature
C. The pursuit of knowledge
D. The necessity of chemistry
The crrect nswer is C. The pursuit of knowledge
The advisor is giving a speech about how to become a "man of science," and s/he is arguing that in order to become one, one should study every branch of natural philosophy and not just one specialty. Natural philosophy was a term used during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to refer to Natural Sciences before science emerged as an institutionalized and rational method of studying the reality. The advisor also contrasts the concept of "man of science" with "petty experimentalist," which is that that one would become if you do not apply yourself to the study of every branch of science. Here, the speaker is stressing the importance of learning about different fields of study, in order to think out of the box and make connections between different topics that, other way, could not be made. This is the main difference between a man of science, who searches for true knowledge, and petty experimentalists, who just apply themselves to a particular field of study.

Explanation:
In Act 5 of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hippolyta is hesitant to watch the play because she doesn't want the actors to be made fun of when they have worked hard and put in a lot of effort. This reflects her noble and considerate nature, understanding that though the mechanicals are not skilled actors, their earnest efforts are deserving of respect rather than mockery. Theseus shares a more philosophical view, expressing that as long as the play is presented sincerely, it merits an audience's imagination to fill the gaps.

Who do you think the skinny maids and old man are, and why do you think they act scared and speak in whispers? Does Bruno understand why they behave this way?
Final answer:
The skinny maids and old man in the story likely represent characters affected by fear or repression, acting cautiously to avoid danger. Bruno's unfamiliarity with their behavior suggests his innocence or lack of exposure to their harsh reality. This dynamic serves to highlight the broader themes of fear, control, and the impact of societal pressures on individuals.
Explanation:
The question seems to draw from a narrative where characters exhibit fear and communicate subtly, possibly indicating a situation laden with danger or repression. The skinny maids and old man, based on the context provided, appear to be secondary characters whose behavior reflects a broader theme of fear, secrecy, or control within the story. Their actions, such as acting scared and speaking in whispers, suggest they are deeply affected by the circumstances or possibly the authoritarian figures around them, making them tread carefully to avoid any form of retribution.
Bruno, presumably a younger or more naive character, may not fully grasp the gravity of their situation or the reasons why these characters behave as they do. This could be due to his age, innocence, or lack of exposure to the dire aspects of their environment. Bruno's inability to understand could serve as a narrative tool to highlight the innocence lost or the harsh realities that some characters are forced to endure.
Such dynamics encourage readers to look beyond the main plot and consider what happens on the margins of the story. This could be illustrative of how societal pressures, fear, and control can significantly affect individuals' lives, often leaving scars that are not immediately visible to others, particularly those shielded from such hardships.
What do Sebastian and Antonio plot while the others are asleep
In Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', Antonio and Sebastian conspire to kill King Alonso so that Sebastian can ascend the throne, while the others sleep, unaware of the looming danger.
Sebastian and Antonio plot to overthrow King Alonso and murder him in his sleep, to enable Sebastian, Alonso's brother, to become the king. This foul plot occurs while the others including Gonzalo, an honest old counselor, are fast asleep, unaware of the conspiracy being hatched against the king. The plot is part of the narrative in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest, which involves themes of power, betrayal, and the supernatural. Antonio, already guilty of usurping his own brother Prospero, encourages Sebastian to commit regicide. All the while, Prospero's spirit-servant Ariel works to foil their plans and keep the others safe.
Which excerpt from the text is the most evident example of fallacious reasoning?
“Do you suppose if they lived up here on the northwest side and had no money,...that any human being would want to hang them?”
“Both of these boys are in the adolescent age, both these boys whom every alienist in this case on both sides tells you is the most trying period in the life of a child,…”
"We all know where our lives have been molded by books, amongst other things."
“And yet there are men who seriously say that for what nature has done, for what life has done, for what training has done, take the boys' lives."
The second excerpt is an example of the type of fallacious reasoning called “Ad Hominem” or “Bandwagon Appeal.” This type of fallacious reasoning is when there is an attempt to convince readers/audience members by communicating that everyone else already believes something, so they should “jump on the bandwagon” and allow themselves to be persuaded. We can see how within the excerpt this is done with the words “every alienist in this case on both sides tells you…”
The text's snippet is the clearest illustration of erroneous reasoning. The second extract is the clearest illustration of faulty reasoning:
"Both of these lads are in their adolescent years, which every alienist in this case on both sides tells you is the most difficult time in a child's life Therefore, choice (B) is accurate.

In Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis, Gregor enjoys human pleasures and sensations, even though he's transformed into an insect. Which of these excerpts from the story best supports that idea? Who, in this tired and overworked family, would have had time to give more attention to Gregor than was absolutely necessary? The household budget became even smaller; so now the maid was dismissed; an enormous, thick-boned charwoman with white hair that flapped around her head came every morning and evening to do the heaviest work; everything else was looked after by Gregor's mother on top of the large amount of sewing work she did. Gregor even learned, listening to the evening conversation about what price they had hoped for, that several items of jewellery belonging to the family had been sold, even though both mother and sister had been very fond of wearing them at functions and celebrations. . . . Gregor's sister no longer thought about how she could please him but would hurriedly push some food or other into his room with her foot before she rushed out to work in the morning and at midday, and in the evening she would sweep it away again with the broom, indifferent as to whether it had been eaten or—more often than not—had been left totally untouched. She still cleared up the room in the evening, but now she could not have been any quicker about it. Smears of dirt were left on the walls, here and there were little balls of dust and filth. At first, Gregor went into one of the worst of these places when his sister arrived as a reproach to her, but he could have stayed there for weeks without his sister doing anything about it; she could see the dirt as well as he could but she had simply decided to leave him to it. . . . Yet Gregor's sister was playing so beautifully. Her face was leant to one side, following the lines of music with a careful and melancholy expression. Gregor crawled a little further forward, keeping his head close to the ground so that he could meet her eyes if the chance came. Was he an animal if music could captivate him so? It seemed to him that he was being shown the way to the unknown nourishment he had been yearning for. He was determined to make his way forward to his sister and tug at her skirt to show her she might come into his room with her violin, as no-one appreciated her playing here as much as he would. . . . No-one was making him rush any more, everything was left up to him. As soon as he had finally finished turning round he began to move straight ahead. He was amazed at the great distance that separated him from his room, and could not understand how he had covered that distance in his weak state a little while before and almost without noticing it. He concentrated on crawling as fast as he could and hardly noticed that there was not a word, not any cry, from his family to distract him. He did not turn his head until he had reached the doorway.
Final answer:
The passage where Gregor is captivated by his sister's violin playing best supports the idea that he retains human pleasures and emotions despite his insect transformation.
Explanation:
In Franz The Metamorphosis, the excerpt that best supports the idea that Gregor enjoys human pleasures and sensations even though he's transformed into an insect is: “Yet Gregor's sister was playing so beautifully. Her face was leant to one side, following the lines of music with a careful and melancholy expression. Gregor crawled a little further forward, keeping his head close to the ground so that he could meet her eyes if the chance came.
Was he an animal if music could captivate him so?” This passage reveals Gregor's continuing appreciation for music, a distinctly human pleasure, indicating that his human sensibilities remain intact despite his physical transformation. Gregor's desire to be close to his sister while she plays and the mention of his yearning for the “unknown nourishment” also suggests a longing for emotional connection, further supporting his retention of human emotions and desires.

C. It is necessary to get to know the subject of your interview so you can talk intelligently about the topics.
D. It is imperative to research the background of a person in order to write from that perspective.
Answer:
The correct answer to the question: Which statement paraphrases what Snow says in the memoir about his encounter with Gandhi, would be: B. It is possible to respect a man even though you do not agree with his philosophy or tactics.
Explanation:
This memoir, about the encounter between American journalist Edgar Snow and Mahatma Gandhi, shows in general not only the impact that Gandhi´s death had on an entire nation, but also on the journalist who performed this encounter. One thing that struck Snow most positively was to see the way that Gandhi embraced all men, regardless of their views, their customs, or their particular religion, because to him, what mattered was the truth, truth was Gandhi´s own religious base, so he thought that as long as truth was inside a person, then nothing else mattered; we was worth Gandhi´s respect.
