Which of these articles will NOT help James write his report? A) “The New York Blizzard of 1993” B) “Warmest Winter in U.S. History” C) "Winter Weather in the South America" D) “Record Snowfalls in the Rocky Mountains”

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

C. "Winter Weather in South America".

Explanation:

A Report is a short, pointed and succinct description of a problem, situation or sequence of events. It is usually written as analysis to a problem that focuses on the proposal or suggestions for future actions in order to resolve the issue. A report requires clarity of ideas at first, thus, the information has to be precise to the context of the topic. Thus, the topic that seems irrelevant or unhelpful to James' topic "Winter Weather in United States" would be the third option "Winter Weather in South America" as it goes completely off the topic.

Answer:

With David's painting we can interpret that Napoleon participated in a victorious campaign. On the other hand, in Delaroche's painting we can conclude that Napoleon participated in a campaign that suffered defeat.

Explanation:

Both paintings for this event were painted by painters David and Delaroche. In David's painting we see a towering, imposing Napoleon with his head held high on his horse, he looks like an unbeatable and admirable great leader, so as we visualize this painting we will conclude that Napoleon was victorious in the campaign.

On the other hand, in Delaroche's painting, we see Napoleon dejected, sitting in a chair looking tired, listless, and without courage. As we look at this painting we will conclude that Napoleon was defeated in the campaign. This explains all the sense of defeat and melancholy that the painting goes through.

Which is not a controlling idea in the essay the peach tree road race

Answers

The controlling idea of 'The Peach Tree Road Race' essay is likely related to the aspects of skill and danger in racing, based on provided excerpts. Unrelated themes such as sexism or racism, and descriptive statements with no insight into racing's essence, are not controlling ideas in the essay.

In the context of essay writing, a controlling idea refers to the main point or argument that is developed throughout an essay. Therefore, in relation to the essay titled 'The Peach Tree Road Race,' identifying a controlling idea that is not present in the essay would require an understanding of the essay's content and themes. Based on the information provided, controlling ideas seem to involve topics such as the inherent skill in racing, the risks associated with racing, and the various aspects that could be emphasized in discussing the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, such as tourism and event coordination. Statements like 'Racing should be a test of skill, not a dice game with death' and 'It's a long and dangerous race' clearly allude to the physical and strategic aspects of racing, as well as the dangers involved.

On the other hand, the provided examples that touch on sexism, racism, the benefits of business ownership, and dog policies on public beaches do not appear to be related to the essay's focus on racing. Similarly, the sentence 'The very fast red racecar crossed the finished line first in the final competition' does not contain an explicit controlling idea about the challenges or nature of racing; it is simply an event description.

Contrasting the provided excerpts about topic sentences with details about the race and referencing emerging themes in 'Dogged,' we can infer that a controlling idea not present in 'The Peach Tree Road Race' essay might pertain to social issues such as sexism or racism, or include statements that lack a direct relationship to racing, skills, or event management aspects mentioned in reference to the Iditarod race.

Mr. Ruggles suggested that Frederick should not stay in New York because he deemed it unsafe for Frederick due to the presence of slave catchers and the risk of recapture for escaped slaves. Determine which element (rhythm, melody, harmony, form, expression) is the most predominant, and explain the answer you chose.

Answers

Rhythm I think. Rhythm is used by most people, when writing poems. We think that it is traditional to use rhythm, and that it is a must have. It helps to form the poem, and make it flow better.

Hope this helps :)

Final answer:

Rhythm is often the most predominant element in music as it provides the foundation for the pace and movement, and it is what listeners resonate with immediately. Form gives the music its overarching structure, while melody and harmony create memorable and rich sounds respectively, but rhythm tends to be the first and most fundamental aspect that defines and structures the music.

Explanation:

To determine which element among rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression is the most predominant in a piece of music, we should consider the aspects that stand out most prominently and contribute to the overall experience. Rhythm is often the element that listeners resonate with immediately as it dictates the pace and movement of the music. Rhythms can be recognized by patterns of beats or silences, and by whether the music uses a meter that is duple, triple, or quadruple. Form refers to how these elements are structured over time to create a cohesive musical work, such as through the blues, AABA, or verse and chorus structures. While rhythm provides the organized foundation of the music, form gives music its overarching structure.

Likewise, melody is a sequence of notes that is musically satisfying and is frequently the most memorable part of a song, often what one hums or recalls. Harmony complements melody by adding depth with multiple notes played simultaneously, creating a richer sound. When experiencing a musical piece, one might notice the melody first, followed by the rhythm, and then recognize how harmony enriches the melody. Expression, which includes dynamics and articulation, can dramatically affect the feel of a song but is not typically the fundamental aspect that defines it.

Ultimately, while all of these elements are crucial and interdependent, rhythm often stands out as the most predominant because of its fundamental role in structuring the music in respect to time and providing the backbone to which the other elements adhere. Listeners tend to tap their feet, move their bodies, or bob their heads in response to rhythm, indicating its impact on the musical experience.

Which line in this excerpt from “The Gun” by Philip K. Dic is an example of euphemism? The Captain peered into the eyepiece of the telescope. He adjusted the focus quickly. "It was an atomic fission we saw, all right," he said presently. He sighed and pushed the eyepiece away. "Any of you who wants to look may do so. But it's not a pretty sight." "Let me look," Tance the archeologist said. He bent down to look, squinting. "Good Lord!" He leaped violently back, knocking against Dorle, the Chief Navigator. "Why did we come all this way, then?" Dorle asked, looking around at the other men. "There's no point even in landing. Let's go back at once." "Perhaps he's right," the biologist murmured. "But I'd like to look for myself, if I may." He pushed past Tance and peered into the sight.

Answers

A EUPHEMISM, a type of figure of speech, is "a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing."
In this passage their has been an "atomic fission" which the crew is taking a turn looking at through their eye piece/telescope. From what we have read so far, an atomic fission probably refers to some type of weapon, perhaps similar to an atomic bomb. We know that this would create a scene of absolute devastation. It is clear from the reaction of the crew members that what they are looking at is horrifying since one of the people, after looking through the scope, "jumps back violently". Another crew member says that there's "no point in even landing" insinuating that the damage they are seeing is so bad it would not serve a purpose to be there.
The euphemism, then, is "it's not a pretty sight" which is said by the Captain. If what they are seeing is so awful that the crew members are "violently" shocked and dismayed enough to return around and abandon their mission, "not a pretty sight" is an understatement and substitution of the actual facts made to to lesson the severity of what is real. While euphemism is sometimes used for humorous purposes, in this case it is probably used because the Captain is so disheartened or upset by what he sees. He is probably trying to lessen the desire of the other members to look at the devastation he has seen.

Answer:

"But it's not a pretty sight."

Explanation:

A euphemism is a mild, indirect, or polite word or expression used to replace another word or expression that is considered unpleasant, offensive, blunt, or harsh. The Captain uses a euphemism when he refers to the atomic fission he saw saying “it's not a pretty sight,” to avoid using a harsh and unpleasant expression that would describe the shocking and serious event.

How does Brueghel's interpretation of the story of Iacrcus differ from Ovid's story of Icarus

Answers

Final answer:

Brueghel's interpretation of the story of Icarus differs from Ovid's in the way it focuses on the everyday life of the people around Icarus and downplays the dramatic fall.

Explanation:

The interpretation of the story of Icarus differs between Brueghel and Ovid in several ways. In Ovid's story, Icarus is warned by his father not to fly too close to the sun, but he ignores the warning and falls to his death. Brueghel's painting, on the other hand, focuses more on the everyday life of the people around Icarus, with the main event of his fall being almost hidden in the background. Additionally, Brueghel's depiction of Icarus's fall is much less dramatic compared to the elaborate descriptions in Ovid's story.

Pieter Brueghel's The Fall of Icarus, seemingly disregards the myth's tragic aspects, by pushing Icarus to the periphery of the work. The painting's emphasis lies on the mundane continuity of life, as exemplified by the bright red shirt of a plowman, who, along with other figures, pays no heed to Icarus's fall. Through this treatment, Brueghel conveys a stark moral: despite individual tragedies, the world at large remains unaffected, and life persists.

The contrast between Ovid's tragic focus and Brueghel's broader, societal perspective offers rich insights into the human condition, cultural narratives, and the transformative power of art.

Since history began, (not that I'm talking about after history) we've wrote many things, that vary from records to plays. A library is said to be the memory of the human racebecause we write so much about what we remember, know, feel, think, and learn, and as books are ideas already written down, they're usually deemed as a memory.

It has been said that a book is the extension of the memory and imagination of man and the library is the memory of humanity. Books break the bonds of time. In the libraries men met to study, reason, educate themselves and spread the knowledge acquired. In ancient Egypt the libraries were called "houses of life". The scribes were the ones who produced the oldest manuscripts. The book is a very important creation since there appear records of data and information that can transport the reader to another time, give information and instruct.

In 1752, Benjamin Franklin had a theory that lightning was electricity. He wanted to prove that the power could be transferred to other objects. He grabbed a kite and experimented on a stormy afternoon.

Franklin believed that thunder clouds contained electrical charges. His plan was to fly the kite into the clouds so that electricity passed down the wet kite string. With his son, William, as his assistant, he went to work.

First, he tied an iron key to the silk kite string. Next, he ran a metal wire from the key into a jar designed to store electrical charges. Once the kite was in the air, he stood in a barn to keep safe and dry.

Soon, electrical charges from the clouds passed into the kite. They traveled along the wet string, to the key, down the wire, and into the jar. When Franklin reached his hand toward the key, he received a mild shock. The electricity had been captured and transferred. The experiment was a success.

At least it was for Benjamin Franklin. Other scientists were killed trying to duplicate his efforts. Looking back, it was not the safest way to test his theory. In this case, it worked out, and paved the way for future discoveries about electricity.
