In the above passage, which word best describes how Bradford feels about the caretakers of the ill?

lucky
selfless
foolhardy
despondent

Answers

Answer:

selfless

Explanation:

Altruism is a word that indicates an attitude of love of neighbor or absence of selfishness. In the text shown in the question, Bradford considers caregivers of sick people altruistic, because for him, these people do a painful and bad job without selfishness and showing love and care to those who are going through a difficult situation. Patient caregivers deliver the best they have to do a service that helps and comforts people.

Answer:

Selfless

Explanation:

The caretakers unselfishly and willingly did many things for the ill, which, as the speaker says, “dainty and queasy stomachs cannot endure to hear named.” They, who were the only ones in good condition, were concerned more with the needs of their friends than their own's and diligently worked to take care of them. Through this description, then, Bradford wants to convey the selfless nature of the caretakers.

"I would not be rude. My wife has just died. You must forgive me." "Oh-" I said, feeling sick for him. "I am so sorry." He stood there biting his lower lip. "It is very difficult," he said. "I cannot resign myself." He looked straight past me and out through the window. Then he began to cry. "I am utterly unable to resign myself," he said and choked. And then crying, his head up looking at nothing, carrying himself straight and soldierly, with tears on both cheeks and biting his lips, he walked past the machines and out the door. accept it

In the black cat the narrator begins the story by speaking directly to the reader . the narrator continues this practice periodically throughout the story . how does the authors use of this structure create mystery in the story?

Answers

The best answer for this question would be:

This kind of structure of the story creates the perspective of the main character through a detailed of opinion on what happened to his life. The readers would be able to understand what went through his mind when he went psychotic.

One of the characteristics of the narrator in the story "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe is the fact that he is unreliable. However, this is not evident from the beginning.

The narrator initially appears to be "sane," and it is only as the story progresses that the reader begins to doubt his mental capacity. This is achieved due to the fact that the narrator speaks to the reader directly. The use of this practice allows the reader to follow the mental processes of the narrator, allowing the reader to slowly notice his insanity.

To Kill A Mockingbird: Chapter 20

Atticus challenges the jury to rise above the “evil assumptions” that Bob and Mayella Ewell are con dent that the jury will accept. What are these “evil assumptions”? How do these assumptions prevent the jury from seeing Tom Robinson for who he really is? How do these evil assumptions—or stereotypes—threaten justice?

Answers

One of the main themes of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is the fact that Tom Robinson struggles to gain access to justice because he is black, and racist people cannot see past this fact. This is what Atticus calls "evil assumptions." Racist people in Maycomb believe that all black men are bad, criminally-inclined, or sexually abusive. Because of this, the jury is more likely to believe Bob and Mayella Ewell than Tom. As the jury struggles to be objective, these stereotypes threaten justice in the town.

The _____ yoke was smooth and polished from long use.
oxes'
oxens'
oxes's
oxen's

Answers

The correct answer is D. Oxen's

Explanation:

According to grammar, the plural form of the word ox that refers to a type of bull is "oxen" and therefore this should be the form used in the sentence. Additionally, in the English language, it is common to use the apostrophe (') along with "s" to express belonging or relationship, this applies to singular and plural nouns that do not end in "s" as those ending in "s" do no need in most cases another "s". This implies in the sentence "The _____ yoke was smooth and polished from long use" in which the possessive form of oxen should be used the correct word is "oxen's" as this includes the correct plural form and also the correct way of making the word possessive (apostrophe followed by an "s").

A) It creates sentimentality as an era passes.
B) It establishes urgency as time is running out.
C) It conveys finality and hopelessness about the future.
D) It creates fear based on the physical chill implied.

1. I would say the correct answer is A) He uses an extended metaphor to convey the magnitude of his sorrow about having to surrender. Sun is the extended metaphor here; it depicts their faltering hope and future that doesn't exist. True, there is a simile in the passage, but it doesn't mark the passage semantically and stylistically as this metaphor does.

2. In my opinion, the correct answer is C) It conveys finality and hopelessness about the future. As I said, the sun here is a metaphor for their happiness and prosperity. That was the last time Black Hawk was able to actually see the sun, and he will never be able to do it again, as his people are definitely defeated and cast off their lands.

Part A: Black Hawk uses an extended metaphor to convey his sorrow about surrendering. Part B: The phrase "the last sun that shone" conveys finality and hopelessness about the future. correct opinion for Part A is A.He uses an extended metaphor to convey the magnitude of his sorrow about having to surrender, and for Part B is C. Part A: Black Hawk uses rhetoric effectively in this excerpt to advance his purpose. The correct answer is A) He uses an extended metaphor to convey the magnitude of his sorrow about having to surrender. Black Hawk's description of the sun rising dim and setting in a dark cloud symbolizes the end of an era and the depth of his grief. This extended metaphor helps illustrate the profound impact of his surrender.

Part B: The phrase "the last sun that shone" greatly affects the tone of Black Hawk’s statement. The correct answer is C) It conveys finality and hopelessness about the future. This phrase implies that Black Hawk feels a deep sense of irrevocable loss and despair, indicating that his surrender marks a terminal point, not just in his life, but also symbolically for his people.

Right now, I am spending a lot of time listening to the voice of a particularly compelling character: the young Merlin. In the end, I finally heard the voice of Merlin thanks to a surprising source: the haunting, mysterious hooting of a great horned owl outside the window of my Colorado home. As I listened to that owl's resonant [echoing] call in the pre-dawn hours one morning, something about it gave me a whole new cadence [rhythm], a whole new sound. And then, a whole new voice.

In this paragraph, what is the author's explicit message about his inspiration for Merlin's voice? (10 points)

1)He had difficulty finding Merlin's voice.

2)His inspiration was the owl outside his window.

3)His old ideas were not working for Merlin's voice.

4)He spent a lot of time thinking about Merlin's voice.

I believe the correct answer is 2) His inspiration was the owl outside his window.
The author says so explicitly/directly in the excerpt above - he was struggling trying to find Merlin's voice when suddenly it came to him 'thanks to a surprising source: the haunting, mysterious hooting of a great horned owl...' So the inspiration came from the owl itself - that is what Barron directly states in the text above.

When I was two years old I remember watching the NBA Finals on TV. The Los Angeles Lakers were playing against the Philadelphia 76ers. I was captivated by watching Kobe Bryant, Shaq O’Neal, and Allen Iverson battling each other for the championship. The history of the Lakers were chasing history had a record of 15-1 in the playoffs. Even as a young child I knew the significance of the game, the individual player was that intrigued myself was Kobe Bryant taking over the rest series right after they’re rivals the 76ers taking game 1. Honestly it looked like fun thing to do it made me want to play like them.
At the age of 4 years old I went to the park to play basketball with a cousin of mine which we were the same age. While we were playing shooting hoops I still had the thoughts of being like Kobe Bryant. I envisioned myself shooting the fadeaway saying to myself ‘’nothing but net’’. I was dribbling gracefully working on my crossover, basketball skills, making moves against imaginary defenders in my head. It sunny that day which made me want to play all day long. I and my cousin were playing basketball till it was 8:00 in the evening. Time had passed because I’ve been enjoying myself shooting from everywhere. While I and my cousin were walking home I had been thinking I want to come back and play as soon as possible! Over the years I continued to play and practice as often as I could. As I got older I developed a strategy and a new aspect of how I was going to compete; that meant playing on a team 5 on 5 full courts.
When I was in 4th grade, school allowed having a more structured schedule. I would wake up in the morning get ready brushed my teeth put on my clothes and ride the bus to school. When I got to school I would get ready for class, and day dream myself playing basketball. The bell would ring I’d sit through class and the bell would ring again and get ready for the next subject. This pattern continued through the morning and the same routine, but what I looked forward most was recess! Outside at recess kids would play all sorts games, there was so much energy that everyone needed to breathe for air. There were kids splaying tag, some playing dodgeball, talking to each other. But the thing I always I wanted to do was to play basketball. Every day I would watch my friends playing basketball thinking I can joined them. The idea of playing on a team was beyond realistic! The school days went by the bells rang, and the same routine took place week after week. I would hear the teachers say ‘’ remember homework is due tomorrow’’ ‘’study for the quiz you have’’ etc. Even though I knew this was important and I never neglected to my responsibilities as a student, occasionally my mind would drift to basketball. Same days all I wanted to do was go to recess and play basketball. One day I’m in school and going through the normal routine. The bell rings and it signals ‘’ recess time’’!

Sebastian explains that the case of mistaken identity has worked in Olivia’s favor because she has married Sebastian, not Viola. Sebastian says that Olivia has mistakenly married a woman instead of a man, which goes against the "bias" of nature. The statement best summarizes Sebastian's words to Olivia is Sebastian explains that the case of mistaken identity has worked in Olivia’s favor because she has married Sebastian, not Viola.

This scene comes at the end of the play, as all has been revealed. In this scene,  Sebastian says: So comes it, lady, you have been mistook. By this, he means that Olivia has been mistaken, or wrong. He continues, "But nature to her bias drew in that." By this, he means, that nature has fixed your error and made it right.

He explains, "You would have been contracted to a maid," meaning that Olivia would have married a maiden, or a young woman. However, he continues by saying, "Nor are you therein, by my life, deceived. He means that Olivia is not entirely deceived, or not entirely wrong.

He says that Olivia married both a young woman AND a young man. He does not mean this, since that isn't quite what happened. Instead, he means that the love Olivia had for Sebastian's sister has been transferred into a love for him. And, since he is still a virg-in, he is a "maiden" as well as a man.
