What ended the cattle boom that followed World War I

Answers

Answer 1
the great depression
Answer 2

Final answer:

The cattle boom following WWI ended due to economic factors like overproduction and the 1921 recession, technological advances like barbed wire fencing, and the rise of big business operations that led to the decline of open range ranching.

Explanation:

The cattle boom that followed World War I ended due to a combination of factors, including overproduction, the recession of 1921, and technological advances such as barbed wire fencing. After the war, prosperity dwindled significantly during the recession of 1921, which impacted the prices of commodities like wheat, which fell drastically. With falling commodity prices, the profitability of the cattle industry declined as well. Barbed wire invention and the domination of big businesses in the East also led to the decline of the open range system that individual ranchers relied on. The small ranchers were no longer able to compete with large operations that could afford economies of scale, leading to the end of the era of open prairie ranching and the advent of modern cattle industry practices focused on mass production and efficiency.

The statement that Americans are less likely to vote in non-presidential elections is true. Voter turnout in the US is notably lower in non-presidential elections due to a variety of factors, including voter apathy and logistical obstacles.

Historically, Americans are less likely to vote in non-presidential elections. This statement is true. Over the years, various studies have shown that the rate of voting among Americans drops significantly during non-presidential elections, such as midterm and local elections. Voter turnout in the United States is not only low compared to many other democratic industrialized countries, such as Sweden and South Korea, but has also been on the decline since the 1960s. Factors like voter apathy, lack of faith in the government, and logistical obstacles have been cited as major reasons for not voting. For example, a significant number of eligible voters do not participate in elections due to not being able to get off work, difficulties in the voter registration process, and a sense of disenfranchisement, believing that their vote will not make a difference.

What specific forces or interests transformed the relationship between the united states and the rest of the world between 1865 and 1890? in addition, what factors conspired to propel the united states to emerge as a military and economic powerhouse prior to world war ii?

Answers

After the Civil War (1861-1865), America's relationship changes with the world in several different ways. For one, slavery becomes outlawed in the US. This greatly effects the US economy, as the Southern states relied heavily on slave labor for crops such as cotton. Along with the change in the way cotton is produced, the US also starts to expand their powers elsewhere. The year 1890 marks the beginning of American imperialism, as they will continue to take over territories like Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines during the late 19th and early 20th century.

This imperialist policy allows the US to expand their political power. Besides spreading political power, the US now gains new resources because of the new land they have control of. Overall, this positively helps their economy. Along with this new political power, the success of US in World War I in helping the Allied power gives them more influence of countries in Europe (like Germany).
Final answer:

The relationship between the United States and the rest of the world transformed between 1865 and 1890 due to economic interests and concerns. American businesses, seeking international markets and favorable raw material deals, forged stronger ties with other countries. The economic depression of the early 1890s also pushed for new markets, leading to further involvement in foreign affairs.

Explanation:

During the period between 1865 and 1890, the relationship between the United States and the rest of the world underwent significant transformation. Various forces and interests played a role in this transformation. One major force was the economic interests of American businesses. As the United States became an industrial power in the late 19th century, businesses saw the need to tap into international markets for export and secure better deals on raw materials. This economic expansionist policy led to the forging of stronger ties with other countries. Additionally, the concerns raised by the economic depression of the early 1890s further contributed to the push for new markets, even if it meant getting involved in foreign affairs.

How did national interests shape policies related to regional commerce in the American system

Answers

The War of 1812 made it apparent the US needed to create industrial systems of their own to aid in self-sufficiency. Leading politicians at the time such as Henry Clay, John Q Adams, and John Calhoun, were in favor of the American System. This system would create a national approach to industrial systems laying the foundation for factory systems to be built. First tariffs to protect American products, second a national banking system, and third, a federally funded system of roads and canals. This system envisioned a plantation South with raw materials, a factory NE, and food production farming in the Midwest. The Midwest and NE became more and more connected between canals, roads, and eventually railways. The South resented the system as the tariffs hurt their international trade and they paid the bulk of taxes in the country which went to benefit the urban factory system developing in NE. Each region became specialized in the overall American economy. Expansion westward would bring the west in as a source of iron ore and lumber as well as many other natural resources needed for industrial production.

It became clear after the War of 1812 that the US needed to develop its own industrial infrastructure to help with self-sufficiency.

What is American system?

The American system is a system that consists primarily of three plans, including the imposition of high tariffs on imported goods in order to secure America's business and help the government increase revenue.

This plan envisioned a plantation South with access to raw resources, a manufacturing Northeast, and Midwest farms for food production. Through roads, canals, and later trains, the Midwest and Northeast became more and more interconnected.

Because they paid the majority of the nation's taxes, which benefited the urban industrial system emerging in the NE, and because the tariffs hampered their international trade, the South disliked the system. In the national American economy, each region specialized.

Thus, It became clear after the War of 1812 that the US needed to develop its own industrial infrastructure.

The Four Freedoms were four goals designed by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941. The four freedoms were included in a speech that Roosevelt delivered after the attack in Pearl Harbor during WWII. The four freedoms that the president included were:

Freedom of speech

Freedom of worship

Freedom from want

Freedom from fear

Two of these freedoms (freedom from speech and freedom of worship) are also protected by the Bill of Rights.

Answer:

out of the four freedoms in his speech, the Bill of Rights describes the first two only.

The first amendment of the Bill of Rights mentions the freedom of speech and expression. it assures a person's entitlement to express himself without fearing any government intervention. this allows americans to share their views and opinions with liberty.

the next freedom introduced is the freedom of religon. like the freedom of spech and expression, it occurs in the first amendment. this law forbids the government from exalting one religion over another. it also guarantees everyone the freedom to choose and to practice his religion.

The last two are the freedoms of want and of fear. both are not written on the bill of rights and do not directly concern the Americans. but in countries invaded by the axis powers, these fears are significant. conquerors force the subdued to surrender the entirety of their individual freedoms. the authoritoes punish anyone who disobeys or defies the government. for such reason, the subdued live fear and in deprivation of pursuing ones desires.

The word “Camelot” is used to refer to the Kennedy family, and they are often referred to as “America’s Royal Family.” What does this mean and why do you think they have this reputation?

Answers

The word "Camelot" refers to a 1960's musical that discusses the legend of King Arthur and his court. This reference to royalty was in part due to John F. Kennedy's obsession with the play. However, this is not the only reason why the Kennedy's are referred to as "America's Royal Family."

The title of "America's Royal Family" shows how the Kennedy's were seen as social icons. Their style of dress, their way of speaking, and their charming personalities were seen as envious traits during this period. Besides their characteristics, they could also be seen as a royal family due to their political power. Joe Kennedy (John's father) was part of the federal government as an ambassador to the United Kingdom and the chair of the Securities and Exchange commission under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. John F. Kennedy would later become President after being a Congressman from Massachusetts. Bobby Kennedy (John's brother) was a US Senator and later the Attorney General (when John was president).

These are three perfect example of how the Kennedy's had a significant amount of political power, leading to their name of "America's Royal Family."

The stock market crash of 1929 precipitated the Great Depression, causing widespread economic collapse, soaring unemployment, social upheaval, and reshaping government intervention in the economy.

The stock market crash of 1929, known as Black Tuesday, triggered a severe economic downturn globally. It led to a collapse in stock prices, bankruptcies, and a banking crisis as people rushed to withdraw savings, causing severe economic contraction. This resulted in unemployment rates peaking at around 25%, widespread poverty, and social unrest with protests and strikes.

Politically, it shifted attitudes towards government intervention, prompting President Hoover's hesitant federal actions and setting the stage for Roosevelt's New Deal, which aimed to provide relief and reform. This period marked a significant shift in American economic policy and public sentiment towards regulation and social welfare.

The growth of the ranching industry was influenced by four main factors: the removal of American Indians from potential ranch land, the creation of more cattle trails, ranchers gaining ownership rights, and the invention of barbed wire.

Explanation:

Factors Influencing the Growth of the Ranching Industry-

Several key factors influenced the growth of the ranching industry. The driving out of American Indians from the North Texas Plains allowed for an expansion of ranch lands. The development of more cattle trails, which complemented the steady expansion of the railroad, helped facilitate the movement of cattle to markets, further promoting growth. As ranchers obtained ownership rights, they invested more into their operations, leading to the cultivation of the land. Finally, the invention of barbed wire in 1873 revolutionized the industry by allowing ranchers to fence off land for their cattle, securing their claims and beginning the transition to sedentary ranching practices from the earlier cattle drives.

What political, economic, and social changes resulted from Japan’s unification during the late sixteenth century?

When it comes to the political changes, the Tokugawa shogunate was introduced which centralized the government. Unlike before where there were many smaller sovereign areas, now there was a huge centralized feudal country with smaller vassals who all reported directly to the Tokugawa shogun. The country became more militaristic.

Economically, the country prospered at first. The Shoguns had numerous projects that they wanted and that cost a lot so they had Daimyos, which were like wealthy feudal lords, participate in these endeavors or they would be punished by the shogun. The country started developing rapidly because they started commanding the economy. It was only later during the Tokugawa shogunate that things started going badly because Japan became way underdeveloped compared to other nations of the world.

Socially, the classes were changed and the power between them was changed. The Samurai, otherwise known as Bushi, became much more important. The peasantry was completely disarmed in order to prevent things like rebellions and Samurai got a huge amount of power since they were the army of the nation and the nation was a military one.

In what ways does kang youwei express a confucian outlook, and in what respects does he show an awareness of a larger world?

Answers

Final answer:

Kang Youwei blended Confucian ideals with a global perspective, advocating for moral conduct and the importance of education while understanding the need for societal reforms to meet global challenges.

Explanation:

Kang Youwei is known for his reformist view that combined traditional Confucian ideals with a modern and global perspective. He expressed a Confucian outlook by advocating for the importance of moral and ethical behavior, social harmony, and the role of education in improving society, much like Confucius himself, who emphasized moral conduct and personal virtue. In line with the Confucian concept of the Mandate of Heaven, Kang saw the state's responsibility to their subjects and the importance of virtuous rulers. However, Kang also showed an awareness of the larger world by recognizing the need for China to adapt and reform in the face of the global influences and challenges of his time. He was influential in the early 20th century, during a period of rapid change and interaction with foreign powers. Following the path of philosophers like Zhu Xi and others before him, Kang understood the importance of integrating Confucian doctrines with contemporary needs. Zhu Xi's work on the Neo-Confucian doctrine already intertwined traditional teachings with current issues. Kong Youwei's reformist views similarly aimed to modernize China but without discarding its Confucian heritage. Like Han Yu before him, who emphasized a return to the original Confucian ethics, Kang believed in the need for moral grounding in societal reforms.

Answers

Answer:

They thought England and France would give them military aid. They thought Northern industries needed Southern markets. They doubted that public opinion in the North would support a war against the South.

Explanation:

The Civil War, one of the greatest wars of modernity, was fought between the separatists of the southern United States and the northern government forces, led by President Abraham Lincoln.

The North of the United States has been built around sharply Enlightenment principles, based on the ideals of freedom, labor, and small private property. It was from the North that the initiative for the development of industry in America started, but to this end, customs measures were taken to restrict the purchase of products from other regions of the world. These measures irritated the Southerners, who needed to buy various products for their eminently agrarian subsistence.

Faced with the political restrictions of the North, the southern leaders met in Montgomery and decided to create the Confederate States of America, as opposed to the Northern states. The North, which represented national unity and was governed by Abraham Lincoln, did not accept the southern proposal and the war between the two regions of the country broke out in 1861. The Southerners believed it was impossible for them to lose the war because they believed that:

They thought England and France would give them military aid. They thought Northern industries needed Southern markets. They doubted that public opinion in the North would support a war against the South.

Letter to a Citizen of Kentucky, an excerpt Executive Mansion, Washington, April 4, 1864. A. G. Hodges, Esq., Frankfort, Ky. My Dear Sir: You ask me to put in writing the substance of what I verbally stated the other day, in your presence, to Governor Bramlette and Senator Dixon. It was about as follows: I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong nothing is wrong. I cannot remember when I did not so think and feel; and yet I have never understood that the Presidency conferred upon me an unrestricted right to act officially in this judgment and feeling. It was in the oath I took that I would to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I could not take the office without taking the oath. Nor was it in my view that I might take the oath to get power, and break the oath in using the power. I understood, too, that in ordinary civil administration this oath even forbade me to practically indulge my primary abstract judgment on the moral question of slavery. I had publicly declared this many times and in many ways; and I aver that, to this day I have done no official act in mere deference to my abstract judgment and feeling on slavery. I did understand, however, that my oath to preserve the Constitution to the best of my ability imposed upon me the duty of preserving, by every indispensable means, that government, that nation, of which that Constitution was the organic law. Was it possible to lose the nation, and yet preserve the Constitution? By general law, life and limb must be protected; yet often a limb must be amputated to save a life, but a life is never wisely given to save a limb. I felt that measures, otherwise unconstitutional, might become lawful by becoming indispensable to the preservation of the Constitution through the preservation of the nation. Right or wrong, I assumed this ground, and now avow it. I could not feel that to the best of my ability I had even tried to preserve the Constitution, if, to save slavery, or any minor matter, I should permit the wreck of government, country, and Constitution altogether. When, early in the war, General Fremont attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not then think it an indispensable necessity. When, a little later, General Cameron, then Secretary of War, suggested the arming of the blacks, I objected, because I did not yet think it an indispensable necessity. When, still later, General Hunter attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not yet think the indispensable necessity had come. When, in March and May and July, 1862, I made earnest and successive appeals to the Border States to favor compensated emancipation, I believed the indispensable necessity for military emancipation and arming the blacks would come, unless averted by that measure. They declined the proposition; and I was, in my best judgment, driven to the alternative of either surrendering the Union, and with it the Constitution, or of laying strong hand upon the colored element. I chose the latter. In choosing it, I hoped for greater gain than loss; but of this I was not entirely confident... Yours truly, A.
