What is political gerrymandering?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

See explanation.

Explanation:

Gerrymandering is the illegal act of redistricting a region in such a way that an opposing group will have their voice in Congress and the government restricted.

Every ten years, the U.S. has a census in which it is able to more accurately measure the population of the county and of each individual state. Based on the census, states are delegated a specific amount of members of the House of Representatives which must represent an equal distribution of the population in their state. For example, if State A has 2.5 million people and 5 Representatives, then each Representative must represent a district of approximately 500,000 people each.

In order to keep the districts equal, state politicians are charged with the duty of redrawing the districts in their state after each census. Gerrymandering is when they use this redraw (known as "redistricting") to give their party more power and limit another party.

For instance, say you have a state which is 60% Republican and 40% Democrat, and this state has 5 Congressional districts. It would make sense that this state has 3 Republican Representatives and 2 Democratic Representatives. However, if a Democratic politician were in charge of redistricting, they might try to fit all the Republicans into one district while maintaining even small majorities of Democrats in the other districts. This could result in the state having, for instance, 4 Democratic Representatives and only 1 Republican Representative despite its make-up.

How did geography impact the Tigris/Euphrates civilization?

The civilization of the Tigris and Euphrates river valleys has had very big benefit from the geography of the area. All of the area is arid and dominated with desert around these two rivers, which has been a natural protector of this civilization, as most of the people were not willing to risk it to go through the desert. In the middle of the desert though, the two rivers were changing the landscape, providing water for drinking and irrigation, as well as fertile layers of soil, making it an excellent place for agriculture. Since the agriculture was able to flourish, this civilization was producing a surplus of food, using it fro trade, while the spare time was committed to learning, science, philosophy.

After world war 2, what impact did the convention people’s party have in ghana?

Answers

It established a new constitution and Ghana eventually won independence from Britain.

Answer:

It established a new constitution and Ghana eventually won independence from Britain.

Explanation:

The Allied victory had fueled the hopes of nationalists from various European colonies in Africa. The doctrine of Nazifascism was contrary to the autonomy of the peoples of the continent; On the other hand, the United Kingdom and the United States had signed in 1941 the Atlantic Charter, which recognized the right of self-determination of peoples as one of the basic principles of international relations.

Based on this concept, there was a movement in Ghana to stop being a colony and achieve independence. After the war, the British introduced some reforms that increased the autonomy of the Ghanaian colony, such as the possibility of electing a local Legislative Assembly, as a way to inhibit the claims of independence.

This was not well regarded by the leaders of the independence movement. Under pressure, the UK established that it would give Ghana independence if most people voted for independence.

At this time, the convention people’s party started a campaign to win votes for independence. With this a new constitution was established and Ghana eventually gained independence from Britain.

Railroads changed life for young people from farms or small towns by providing new opportunities for work, education, and social interaction.

Prior to the expansion of railroads, young people living in rural areas had limited access to the outside world. Their lives were largely confined to their local communities, where economic opportunities were often limited to agriculture or small-scale trade. The advent of railroads brought about several significant changes:

1. Employment Opportunities: Railroads created a demand for labor, offering young people new job prospects beyond the family farm. They could find work as laborers, engineers, conductors, and in various other roles within the railroad industry.

2. Education: With improved transportation, young people had better access to schools and colleges that were previously too far away to attend. This allowed for a better-educated populace, which in turn opened up further opportunities for personal and professional advancement.

3. Social Mobility: The railroad facilitated movement between different regions, enabling young people to leave their small towns in search of new experiences and opportunities in cities or other parts of the country.

4. Cultural Exchange: Rail travel exposed young people to new ideas, cultures, and lifestyles, broadening their horizons and influencing their aspirations and worldviews.

5. Economic Growth: The increased connectivity provided by railroads stimulated economic growth, which in turn could lead to better prospects for young people in terms of both employment and entrepreneurship.

6. Access to Markets: Farmers and small business owners could transport their goods more easily and cheaply to distant markets, which could improve their economic situation and provide more resources for their families, including their children.

7. Family Connections: Railroads made it easier for young people to maintain relationships with family members who might have moved away, as well as to visit relatives in other towns and cities. In summary, the expansion of railroads had a profound impact on the lives of young people from rural areas by offering them greater freedom, opportunities, and exposure to the wider world.

The French colonies in North America were known as New France. They were located in Newfoundland, St. Lawrence River, Acadia (what today is Nova Scotia), and some other that expanded to the Great Lakes region.

The correct answer is B) it was the best way to grow large cash crops.

A plantation economy helped planters in the South become wealthy in that it was the best way to grow large cash crops.

Southern states heavily supported slavery because they depended on slaves to produce cash crops in large plantations. These crops were used for internal consumption but mostly were traded and exported to Europe. The soil of the southern states was fertile, that is why growing crops was a great business for landlords who used slaves. However, the issue of slavery divided the US citizens. The northerners supported abolition while southerners supported slavery.

The UK and US supsicious of Soviet Union use of reperations but couldn't refuse as the Soviet Union had lost most. Soviet Union suspicious of UK and US promise to divide Germany 4 as it didn't fit with philosophy. The Yalta Conference helped lead the Cold War by giving the Soviet Union control over Eastern Europe. They were given the right to control Eastern Europe.. This led to the Cold War because it made the West feel that the USSR was bent on expanding communism.

Final answer:

The Yalta Conference led to Cold War tensions as a result of conflicting goals for postwar Europe; the U.S. and Britain favored democracy, while the USSR sought a communist sphere of influence and resisted free elections in Eastern Europe.

Explanation:

The result from the Yalta Conference led to tensions between the U.S. and the USSR because of differing visions for postwar Europe and deep-rooted mistrust. The Conference, held in February 1945, was supposed to outline a plan for collaborative efforts after the war. However, issues arose when discussing the future of Poland and Eastern Europe. The U.S. and Britain supported free elections and self-government, while Stalin aimed to establish a communist government and a Soviet sphere of influence for security reasons. Stalin's insistence on controlling Eastern Europe and promoting communism internationally were in direct opposition to the democratic aspirations held by the U.S. and Britain.

The Cold War grew out of these unresolved disputes and mistrust. The Allies couldn't reach a durable settlement on various crucial issues such as reparations, tribunals, and occupation regimes. The death of Roosevelt and the hard-line anti-Soviet stance of his successor Truman further exasperated the situation, leading to the onset of the Cold War, characterized by proxy wars and ideological battles.

What was Kristallnacht?

German Nazis begin a terror campaign against Jewish individuals, their homes, and places of commerce in Germany and Austria on November 9, 1938. Approximately 100 Jews were killed, 7,500 Jewish businesses were damaged, and hundreds of synagogues, homes, schools, and graveyards were vandalized during the violence, which lasted through November 10 and was later termed "Kristallnacht," or "Night of Broken Glass," after the countless windows of Jewish-owned establishments that were shattered.

Adolf Hitler began his effort to expel Germany's Jewish population in 1933 when he was appointed chancellor. Kristallnacht was a spectacular expansion of that campaign.

Following Kristallnacht, almost 100,000 Jews left Germany for other nations. The horrific events of November 9 and 10 horrified the international community. The Byzantine Empire and the Russians, or rather Kievan Russ at the beginning, had very close ties, and the main reason was that they traded a lot between each other, and traditionally had good relations. Because there was constant contact, the Russians started to adopt numerous things from the Byzantines as they were much more advanced. The Russians were pagans, but that all changed with the introduction of the Orthodox Christianity by the Byzantines, which they accepted it as their religion, and has been very important part of their identity ever since. The politics also got influenced, as the Russians started to use the code of laws from Byzantium, which resulted in much better organized and structured society. The literacy also came from Byzantium, as the emperor ordered the Macedonian brothers Cyril and Methodius which created a Slavic alphabet, to spread it among the Slavic people, including the Russians.

a.) Plain's Dust
b.) Dust Bowl
c.) Plain's Bowl
d.) Dusty Plains

Answers

b.) Dust bowl is the correct answer

Answer:

b.) Dust Bowl

Explanation:

The Dust Bowl was one of the worst ecological disasters of the 20th century that took place during the 1930s. The drought affected the plains that extend from the Mexican Gulf to Canada between 1932 and 1939 and it was preceded by a long period of large rains. The drought was caused by years of practice of intensive agriculture that let the soil susceptible to wind action. Therefore, the soil, stripped off of the humidity, was risen by strong winds creating thus large dust clouds.  The Dust Bowl multiplied the effects of the Great Depression in the region and caused the largest population displacement in a short period in the history of the United States. Three million inhabitants left their farms during the 1930s, and more than half a million emigrated to other states, especially to the west.
