Which of the following is the best summary of the first half of Antigone?
Antigone and Ismene discuss the piteous plight of their family. Antigone Informs Ismene of Creon's decision to forbid proper rites of burial
for their brother Polynelces. She also tells Ismene that she plans to renounce the king's orders. Ismene warns Antigone against defying Creon
and jeopardizing her life, but Antigone is adamant. She gets caught in the act of burying Polyneices and is brought before Creon, who asks
her to relent. She refuses, and he sentences her to death
Antigone begins at the height of the battle of Thebes. That battle pits Antigone's father, Oedipus, against her uncle Creon. Jocasta, Antigone's
mother, can't bear the burden of seeing her family turn on each other, and she hangs herself. Oedipus blinds himself in grief over losing his
mother and renounces his throne. He condemns himself to a life of exile, accompanied by his daughters, Antigone and Ismene.
At the outset of Antigone, the city of Thebes is ravaged with plague and bloodshed. Antigone knows that the plague is in part because of her
incestuous bloodline. She attempts to rid the city of its troubles by urging her father, Oedipus, to renounce the throne and leave the city
behind in peace. However, Antigone's brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices, have different plans. They oppose Antigone by trying to maintain
their father's position as head of state.
Antigone and Ismene are deeply dismayed that their brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices, have declared war on each another. They plead with
their gracious uncle King Creon to call off the battle and save both their brothers' lives. Creon does his best to comply with his nieces' wishes
but he is only able to save Polyneices. This failure enrages Antigone, who blames Creon for Eteocles' demise. She vows revenge on Creon and
wishes doom on the city of Thebes.

Read the excerpt from the fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel” and answer the question that follows. Hard by a great forest dwelt a poor wood-cutter with his wife and his two children. The boy was called Hansel and the girl Gretel. He had little to bite and to break, and once when great dearth fell on the land, he could no longer procure even daily bread. Now when he thought over this by night in his bed, and tossed about in his anxiety, he groaned and said to his wife: "What is to become of us? How are we to feed our poor children, when we no longer have anything even for ourselves?" "I'll tell you what, husband," answered the woman, "early tomorrow morning we will take the children out into the forest to where it is the thickest; there we will light a fire for them, and give each of them one more piece of bread, and then we will go to our work and leave them alone. They will not find the way home again, and we shall be rid of them." "No, wife," said the man, "I will not do that; how can I bear to leave my children alone in the forest?—the wild animals would soon come and tear them to pieces." "O, you fool!" said she, "then we must all four die of hunger, you may as well plane the planks for our coffins," and she left him no peace until he consented. "But I feel very sorry for the poor children, all the same," said the man. The two children had also not been able to sleep for hunger, and had heard what their stepmother had said to their father. Gretel wept bitter tears, and said to Hansel: "Now all is over with us." "Be quiet, Gretel," said Hansel, "do not distress yourself, I will soon find a way to help us." And when the old folks had fallen asleep, he got up, put on his little coat, opened the door below, and crept outside. The moon shone brightly, and the white pebbles which lay in front of the house glittered like real silver pennies. Hansel stooped and stuffed the little pocket of his coat with as many as he could get in. Then he went back and said to Gretel: "Be comforted, dear little sister, and sleep in peace, God will not forsake us," and he lay down again in his bed. When day dawned, but before the sun had risen, the woman came and awoke the two children, saying: "Get up, you sluggards! we are going into the forest to fetch wood." She gave each a little piece of bread, and said: "There is something for your dinner, but do not eat it up before then, for you will get nothing else." Gretel took the bread under her apron, as Hansel had the pebbles in his pocket. Then they all set out together on the way to the forest. When they had walked a short time, Hansel stood still and peeped back at the house, and did so again and again. His father said: "Hansel, what are you looking at there and staying behind for? Pay attention, and do not forget how to use your legs." "Ah, father," said Hansel, "I am looking at my little white cat, which is sitting up on the roof, and wants to say goodbye to me." The wife said: "Fool, that is not your little cat, that is the morning sun which is shining on the chimneys." Hansel, however, had not been looking back at the cat, but had been constantly throwing one of the white pebble-stones out of his pocket on the road. When they had reached the middle of the forest, the father said: "Now, children, pile up some wood, and I will light a fire that you may not be cold." Hansel and Gretel gathered brushwood together, as high as a little hill. The brushwood was lighted, and when the flames were burning very high, the woman said: "Now, children, lay yourselves down by the fire and rest, we will go into the forest and cut some wood. When we have done, we will come back and fetch you away." Hansel and Gretel sat by the fire, and when noon came, each ate a little piece of bread, and as they heard the strokes of the wood-axe they believed that their father was near. It was not the axe, however, but a branch which he had fastened to a withered tree which the wind was blowing backwards and forwards. And as they had been sitting such a long time, their eyes closed with fatigue, and they fell fast asleep. When at last they awoke, it was already dark night. Gretel began to cry and said: "How are we to get out of the forest now?" But Hansel comforted her and said: "Just wait a little, until the moon has risen, and then we will soon find the way." And when the full moon had risen, Hansel took his little sister by the hand, and followed the pebbles which shone like newly-coined silver pieces, and showed them the way. In the given passage from "Hansel and Gretel" by the Brothers Grimm, the passage deals with how Hansel helped pacify his sister amidst their parents' deserting them. He acted as the brave one, comforting his sister while also in a dilemma himself. But he knew better not to panic for the sake of Gretel. Explanation:

Plagiarism includes using others' work without proper attribution, copying text without citing the source, and even improperly paraphrasing or summarizing others' ideas. To avoid it, use one's own ideas and properly cite any sourced materials.

Plagiarism occurs when someone uses the words, ideas, or work of others without proper attribution. Examples of plagiarism include copying someone else's writing word for word, paraphrasing an article without citing the source, and purchasing or attempting to pass off another writer's work as one's own.

Although unintentional, plagiarism can also occur, often due to improper paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting, or citing. To avoid being accused of plagiarism, one should use their own ideas predominantly and support their writings with cited sources only when necessary. When one does utilize another person's work, it is crucial to give proper credit through citations.

Different forms of plagiarism can include buying or using a term paper written by someone else, cutting and pasting passages without citing, and using another person's overall sentence structure and ideas while only altering a few words. Even borrowing material and indicating the source can be considered plagiarism if the material is not properly paraphrased or summarized.

What are some things that one can do to get organized while applying for college?

Answers

Answer:

Look Below

Explanation:

Since I'm also a senior that is also applying this fall I can totally relate with the stress that comes with. First and foremost, figure out the colleges you want to apply to. Take advantage of the fact the time you have over the summer to tour colleges, explore college websites, see which colleges are best for your intended major. After that, make a spreadsheet in which you list the: application deadlines, recommendation letters (if needed), essay questions (if needed) and all those requirements etc;. Check out what programs they offer (honors, specialized etc;). If you haven't already asked your teachers for recc letters (if you need it), please email them about it so you can get it out of the way fast. If your school has a special website/materials to help you with the college process, go through all those materials so it can help you. After you made a rough spreadsheet of all the basic info, you can look for those essay questions and make google docs/word documents with them. You can just start writing those essays now since you have time and common app/UC (University of California System if your in California) questions are generally the same every year. You could also make a FASFA account for financial aid etc;. Also, something I highly recommend if you haven't done so already, is to organize into one document (your resume basically) your basic info: GPA, ACT/SAT scores, clubs you've been in, volunteer hours, major awards/accomplishments etc;. Anything outside of school really. By organizing a basic resume, you can kind of place yourself in terms of which colleges are a safety school or reach school. It also helps you organize your strengths/weaknesses so you can adapt easily when writing essays that play to your strengths/accomplishments. Hopefully this helped! Feel free to send me a message if you need more advice.

Which option in the clearest example of deductive reasoning?

Answers

Answer:

Every rose has its thorn. Therefore, any rose i pick will have at least one thorn.

Explanation:

Final answer:

The clearest example of deductive reasoning is the statement that applies a general principle, gravity is associated with mass, to deduce a specific conclusion that the moon has weaker gravity due to lesser mass.

Explanation:

The clearest example of deductive reasoning is provided by a situation where we start with a general principle or fact and use that to reach a conclusion about a specific case. One such example is when we know a general rule such as "All living cells contain DNA," and from this we can deduce that any specific living cell contains DNA.

Another example is the case where we know that gravity is associated with mass, so we can deduce that the moon has weaker gravity than Earth because it has a smaller mass. This is not an induction from observations but rather a logical deduction based on a general principle. When the premises of such deductive arguments are true and the argument is valid, the conclusion must also be true.

Therefore, the statement "Gravity is associated with mass. Because the moon has a smaller mass than the Earth, it should have weaker gravity," is the clearest example of deductive reasoning.

These words or expressions relate things or pronouns toother words in a sentence, and often show a positional relationship of some kind or another.

Words that are doled out to a similar part of speech by and large showcase comparative syntactic way of behaving Different terms than part of speech — particularly in current semantic characterizations, which often make more exact qualifications than the customary plan does — incorporate word class, lexical class, and lexical class. A few creators confine the term lexical class to allude just to a particular sort of syntactic class; for them the term prohibits those parts of speech that are viewed as utilitarian, like pronouns.

The term structure class is additionally utilized, albeit this has different clashing definitions. Word classes might be named open or shut: open classes (regularly including things, action words and descriptors) gain new individuals continually, while shut classes (like pronouns and conjunctions) get new individuals inconsistently, if by any means.

Therefore Due to such variety in the quantity of classes and their recognizing properties, examination of parts of speech should be finished for every individual language.

COUNTY ATTORNEY (with the gallantry of a young politician).
Which best describes the effect of the word "gallantry" in this excerpt?
It creates the setting by hinting at a period in time when men were more inclined to treat women with respect
It develops the conflict by creating tension as the other men in the story realize the County Attorney actually sympathizes
with women
It enhances the theme of the story by showing that some men are capable of treating women with respect, even if it does
not seem so
It characterizes the County Attorney as someone desirous of showing respect to women, even if he does not mean it

Answers

Answer:

The correct answer is D. It characterizes the County Attorney as someone desirous of showing respect to women, even if he does not mean it.

Explanation:

The question refers to Glaspell's 'A Jury of Her Peers,' in which a woman kills her husband because of her unhappiness with the marriage. Namely, the woman felt trapped, helpless, cornered in this marriage even though the husband didn't physically or mentally abuse her. She felt as though her freedom was taken from her and it all culminated in her killing him, even though he was supposedly a good man.

The police comes to investigate the scene, along with the County Attorney and several neighbors. These neighbors, namely women, understand the motives behind the murder and are actually the ones to solve it whereas the men don't want to take them seriously. The County Attorney shows 'the gallantry of a young politician,' meaning that he pretends to respect what the women are trying to say, even though he doesn't really respect them. Politicians are stereotypically known to lie and hide their true thoughts, which is why the term is used here.

Answer:

D It characterizes the County Attorney as someone desirous of showing respect to women, even if he does not mean it.
