Sally threw her bike and ran towards the house. She wanted to figure out what made that loud noise coming from in the house. She knocked on the door shouting, "Hello? Anyone there?" No one answered but the loud noise continued to play. She grabbed a bobby pin from her hair that her mother put up this morning and used it to unlock the door. Once she got in, she searched to find the noise. It wasn't in the living room, it wasn't in the kitchen, and it surely wasn't in the bedrooms. Sally looked up and noticed there was a string attached to a little panel on the roof. She pulled on the string and down came a ladder, leading up to the attic. She braced herself for what was about to come, climbing up the steps slowly. Sally peered into the room to see a bright lit up T.V. with a person she's never seen before watching it. The stranger looked at her and became shocked, turned off the TV, and tried to run past her to get out of the house. The attic was shut though, so the stranger needed to take some time to put it down. Sally stopped the stranger, who appeared to be a male, and questioned him, "What are you doing in this house? The real owners are on vacation right now!" The stranger didn't answer, finally opened the attic door and ran out the house as fast as he could. Sally tried to run after him, but she was much slower. The guy was no where in sight when she got outside. Sally immediately called the owners of the house and told them about this incident, and the man was never in there again.
This is a short suspense story about a girl named Sally. She rushes home in fear, abandoning her bike in the yard. Once safely inside, she realizes it may have all been her imagination.
Explanation:Sally threw her bike and ran towards the house, her heart pounding against her ribs. The wind whistled in her ears and her feet felt almost weightless with fear. Behind her, the bike lay sprawled on the grass, the evening sun shimmering off the silver frame.
She bolted up the steps to the door flung them open, and ducked inside. The hallway was dark and cool, a sharp contrast to the golden sunlight outside. Panting for breath, Sally dared to glance over her shoulder. There was nothing. The front yard and the quiet street beyond were empty.
Pulling the door shut, Sally leaned back against it, allowing herself a sigh of relief. Maybe it was all her imagination running wild and nothing was chasing her at all. She tidied up, brushing off any lingering fear, before making her way to her room.

Compare the words slow and foe. How are they alike? How are they different?
Slow: Is alike with foe, because they both rhyme, and is different, because it means to be moving at a low speed. Foe: Alike in the sense that it rhymes, and different because it means your enemy or opponent. These two words can also be alike, because they both mean "annoying things".
Answer:
Slow and foe have similar negative or pessimistic connotations, since slow can refer to something or somebody dull and foe to an adversary. As a result, both words can be used to describe things or people that are irritating. Besides, both of them have the same vowel sounds, /ou/.
On the other hand, they are different because slow is an adjective and foe is a noun.
Read the excerpt from chapter 7 of Night.
Meir Katz remained on the train. The last day had been the most lethal. We had been a hundred or so in this wagon. Twelve of us left it. Among them, my father and myself.
The author’s main purpose in this excerpt is to show that ______
A) few survived the horrific train ride.
B) the author and his father were safe.
C) Meir Katz was not as strong as he seemed.
D) Meir Katz was left behind to remove the dead.
The author’s main purpose in this excerpt is to show (A) a few survived the horrific train ride.
He talks about a lethal ride and that the passengers had been a hundred or so.
Answer: A) few survived the horrific train ride.
The excerpt does not show that his father and him were safe. Difficulties could have been waiting for them right after leaving the train. Moreover, there is no blame attached to Meir Katz for remaining on the train. He was just a victim of horrific circumstances. There was also no purpose in leaving him behind according to this passage. However, the passage does prove that very few people survived the train ride (in this case, 12/100).

Yes E is the correct answer, or I agree with you. The problem of course is that we both could be wrong. Some of the choices don't make any sense at all. C is one such comment. The idea behind the image is that figure of speech is so apt that you can have an imaginary garden with something real in it. That's great poetry.

This is going to be a hard one to answer. There are two things present. There's consonance and there's repetition

Every so often I get this question. My answer is A, but you have to read more of the poem. It is a wonderful example of fall and response of what a man and wife think of their lot in life. When you read on in A, you find that all he wants is 2 store bought suits that he could buy at the same time. He wants a bottle of gin. He wants a wife that supports him. [That's the bad one. He's not totally content with his life.] He wants the furniture to be paid for. She wants to feel better about her daughter being married and her son "most grown" and working. I'd pick A but if you have feelings of your own, go with them. This is the only time I can remember recommending something that is not written in the excerpt that has quoted. Call from her. Response from him.
'Sweet' and 'pungent' are A) antonyms. B) homophones. C) similes. D) synonyms.
B) Antonyms, because sweet means “having the pleasant taste characteristic of sugar or honey; not salty, sour, or bitter.” while pungent means “having a sharply strong taste or smell.” So, they are antonyms.
'Sweet' and 'pungent' are A) antonyms.
Antonyms are words that are opposite in meaning.
Whereas a sweet item tastes good and makes the person taking them long for more, a pungent item has a sharp, and intense odor that makes people reject such an item.

Read the introduction from an argumentative essay. Think about the number of chores you do in any given week. According to a recent newspaper article, robots may soon be doing your chores for you. Robots also may be taking over more "human” roles like teaching children and caring for older people. On the plus side, robots could make room for people to spend their time doing more interesting things, but having robots doing all the work has disadvantages, too. To make the claim in the introduction stronger and more effective, the writer should provide a clear viewpoint. use more informal language. offer an alternative solution. address the counterclaim.
To make the claim in the introduction stronger and more effective the writer should provide a clear viewpoint because this paragraph is confusing for the reader. The reason for this is that the paragraph starts claiming that robots can make our lives easier because they can assume more "human" roles and so leave us more free time in order to do things that we love but then it ends by stating that there are also disadvantages to this evolution. Consequently, it is not clear for the reader if the writer is in favor or against this evolution.
Making the language more informal wouldn't help because it wouldn't guarantee a clearer point of view. Moreover, offering an alternative solution doesn't seem to be the topic of this paragraph. Finally, a reference to the counterclaim as well as addressing it would be more appropriate to do in another paragraph.

Which of the following is NOT a type of conflict?
A. The youths struggle of fears
B. The fat soliders fight with a young girl.
C. the army travels through the woods.
The correct answer is option C: the army travels through the woods.
A conflict is a major dispute or verbal fight which usually lasts for a long time. As a result, an organized military force by itself that travels through the woods does not involve a quarrel of any kind.
In sentence A, young people make a forceful effort to get rid of their anxiety, while in sentence B, there is a conflict between the fat soldiers and the young girl.
Conflict generally involves struggle between opposing forces. Both the youth's struggle of fears and the fat soldier's fight with a young girl depict conflict. But the instance of the army traveling through the woods lacks a clear opposing force, hence, does not represent conflict.
Explanation:The question is asking which scenario does not illustrate conflict, a key literary element that drives a story. Conflict generally involves a struggle between opposing forces, typically between a protagonist and an antagonist.
The youth's struggle with fears - This represents internal conflict, a battle within one's self. The fat soldier's fight with a young girl. - This is an example of person-person conflict, a struggle between two characters. The army's travel through the woods - This is not considered a conflict since there's no apparent struggle between opposing forces. Therefore, the answer is C. the army travels through the woods.

We can explain the ambiguity in the text "I made her other Morse code jewelry with dad's messages - a necklace, an anklet, some dangly earrings, a tiara - but the bracelet was definitely the most beautiful, probably because it was the last, which made it the most precious," in the following manner:
