Answer:

"The commons stand in terror of thy frown, And dare not utter aught that might offend, But I can overhear their muttered plaints, Know how the people mourn this maiden doomed."

Explanation:

Haemon presents his dad with two similitudes, endeavoring to break Creon's obstinate ways. He at that point describes a similar thought through cruising a ship. 'What's more, a similar thing occurs in cruising: Make your sheet quick, never loosen,- - and over you go, Head over heels and under: and there's your voyage.' Both bits of knowledge endeavor to remind his dad that occasionally we need to change our approaches to keep us alive, yet Creon needs nothing to do with Haemon's apparently young beliefs.

b. It gave women more power in society and politics, but in literature men remained more powerful.

c. It gave women more power than they previously had, which was portrayed in literary characterizations of women.

d. It allowed women to hold important offices at the state and national level, which they were barred from before gaining the right to vote.

Answers

The correct answer would be C.

Answer:

c. It gave women more power than they previously had, which was portrayed in literary characterizations of women.

Explanation:

When women gained the right to vote, this represented a significant change from previous gender roles women were expected to conform to. The right to vote allowed women to have more of a say in the running of their country and in various social matters. This empowerment was similarly reflected in literature, where characterizations of women became more complex.

Which phrase is not likely to be considered a cliché?

A. You should dance as if no one is watching.

B. You should stop and smell the roses.

C. You should love as if you died yesterday.

D. When one door closes, a window opens.

Answers

A) you should dance as if no one is watching.

I believe this is the correct answer but i'm not sure.

Answer:

C. You should love as if you died yesterday.

Explanation:

This phrase does not present a cliché for two reasons. The first reason is that those who died can not love anything, so you must love intensely before you die. The second reason is that if the sentence presented a cliché it would be written as follows: "You must love as if you would die tomorrow."

WILL MARK BRAINIEST The findings of the study will be published in Scientific Journal next month. This sentence is active. This sentence cannot be rewritten in the active voice. This sentence can be rewritten in the active voice.

Answers

The sentence The findings of the study will be published in Scientific Journal next month is in the passive voice because the subject of the sentence (the findings of the study) doesn't act but it is rather the passive recipient of the action. If we wanted to rewrite the sentence in the active voice, that would be:

They will publish the findings of the study in Scientific Journal next month.

So, the correct answer is: This sentence can be rewritten in the active voice.

Final answer:

The provided sentence is in the active voice, where the subject performs the action. Active voice is typically stronger and more direct than passive voice. To use active voice, the doer of the action should be the sentence's subject, and active verbs should be used to enhance clarity and engagement.

Explanation:

The sentence 'The findings of the study will be published in Scientific Journal next month.' is indeed in the active voice. This means that the subject of the sentence, which is 'the findings of the study,' performs the action of being published. In contrast, passive voice would be used if the subject were the recipient of the action, such as 'The study's findings will be published by Scientific Journal next month.'

To maintain active voice, it's essential to keep the doer of the action as the sentence's subject. Active-voice sentences are often more direct and vigorous than passive ones. For instance, 'Three undergraduate students completed the study in 2020.' is a much stronger sentence than saying 'The study was completed in 2020 by three undergraduate students.'

When crafting sentences, especially for scientific papers, using active verbs creates strength and clarity. For example, changing the sentence from 'The psychology class is interesting to me' to 'I find the psychology class interesting' removes the 'to be' verb and integrates a more active structure.

The sentence that conveys a tone that is inconsistent with the rest of the passage is Sentence 4: The Earth's magnetic field is created by the rotation of its molten core. The tone of this sentence is more factual and lacks the engaging and descriptive language present in the other sentences. The other sentences focus on the fascinating aspects of electricity and its manifestations in nature, as well as its importance to human technology and understanding of the natural world.

Which of the following would be the most effective tool for creating space in a composition?
A
bright colors
B
intense light source
C
many objects in the background
D
1 point perspective

Answers

The answer will be B

Final answer:

The most effective tool for creating space in a composition is 1 point perspective, as it establishes depth by showing how objects appear smaller as they get further away, converging towards a single vanishing point.

Explanation:

The most effective tool for creating space in a composition out of the options provided would be 1 point perspective. One-point perspective is a drawing method that shows how things appear to shrink in size as they get further away, converging towards a single 'vanishing point' on the horizon line. It establishes depth and dimension in a composition. For example, in a landscape, objects closer to the viewer are depicted larger than those in the distance, while parallel lines like railroad tracks will seem to meet at a single point on the horizon. This technique creates a realistic sense of space and distance within a two-dimensional artwork.

Other elements mentioned, such as bright colors, an intense light source, and having many objects in the background, can also affect the perception of space but are supplementary to the foundational space-defining method of perspective. Bright colors can draw attention to certain areas, an intense light source can create dramatic contrasts and a sense of volume, and including many objects in the background can give a sense of complexity to space, but none of these techniques are as effective as one-point perspective for creating the illusion of space on a flat surface.

This is a book the children enjoyed. What's the subordinate clause and it's introduce by what?

Answers

Final answer:

The sentence given lacks a subordinate clause; it has a relative clause 'the children enjoyed' which modifies the noun 'a book'. This is mistaken for a subordinate clause, which would typically begin with a subordinating conjunction and cannot stand alone as a sentence.

Explanation:

The sentence 'This is a book the children enjoyed' does not contain a subordinate clause. The part 'the children enjoyed' is actually a relative clause that gives additional information about the book. Unlike a subordinate clause, which depends on a main clause, this relative clause merely modifies a noun within the main clause and is introduced by the relative pronoun 'that', which is often omitted in everyday speech. In comparison, a subordinate clause would be introduced by a subordinating conjunction and would provide additional information related to the main clause's time, reason, condition, contrast, or manner. A subordinating conjunction can be words like 'although', 'because', 'if', or 'when', and always appears at the beginning of the subordinate clause, rendering it unable to stand alone as a complete sentence.

Answer:

C. The sentences fall across multiple stanzas.

Explanation:

Modernism was an artistic movement created with the intention of breaking with the characteristics of the ancient literary schools. This movement was characterized by the break with the traditional, transforming the way it was previously written; Some of these changes are: Formal Freedom, which was expressed in the use of the free verse, the abandonment of fixed forms, such as the sonnet; colloquial speech, lack of punctuation and the presence of fallen sentences in multiple stanzas of a poem.

This last feature is the one we can observe in the above poem, where sentences fall into multiple stanzas creating an emphasis on the first word of each line.

Read this excerpt from "Eavesdropping" from One Writer’s Beginnings by Eudora Welty and answer the question. When I was young enough to still spend a long time buttoning my shoes in the morning, I’d listen toward the hall: Daddy upstairs was shaving, in the bathroom, and Mother downstairs was frying the bacon. They would begin whispering back and forth to each other up and down the stairwell. My father would whistle his phrase, my mother would try to whistle, then hum hers back. … I drew my buttonhook in and out and listened to it – I know it was "The Merry Widow." The difference was, their song almost floated with laughter: how different from the record, which growled from the beginning, as if the Victrola were only slowly being wound up. They kept it running between them, up and down the stairs where I was now just about ready to run clattering down and show them my shoes. Which of the following correctly pair(s) the detail with its sense?
Select all that apply.
1. frying bacon = smell and taste
2. "show them my shoes" = sight

Question 1

The correct answer is option 1 "physical laws regarding fuel and weight". In Tom Godwin's science-fiction story “The Cold Equations", the story takes place in an Emergency Dispatch Ship (EDS), where the pilot discovers a eighteen-year-old girl, which entered as a stowaway. The rule was eject any stowaway to maintain the fuel and weight of the ship, but after learning the innocence of the young girl, he decided to take a different approach.

Question 2

The correct answer is "false". The main conflict of “The Cold Equations", is that Marilyn has to die, and the pilot Barton has to be the executioner.

Question 3

The correct answer is Barton "wants to know why she has taken such a risk". Barton did not want to jettison Marilyn, and wants to understand why he have to do it.

Answer:

Q1- "physical laws regarding fuel and weight", since the rule for the trip was that "h amount of fuel will not power an EDS with a mass of m plus x safely to its destination". X stands for the girl's weight in the ESL, which was a stowaway, and she couldn't stay in it or the destination wouldn't be reached.

Q2- False, the conflict is a choice between the life of Marylin and the fact that Barton has to be the one to jettison her out of it.

Q3 - "wants to know why she has taken such a risk" , since he is not from Earth an doesn't understand why humans always believe in possibilities that aren't a match to the physical laws that he was used to. For him, it was very strange to see how the girl could still be hopeful that she could stay in the ESL even after the explanation on why this wasn't possible.

Compton's Encyclopedia Jonas Salk (1914-1995). For the first half of the 20th century, poliomyelitis, also known as infantile paralysis, was one of the most dreaded diseases to attack young people. By 1955 American physician and researcher Jonas Salk had developed a vaccine that almost eradicated the disease in the United States and other developed countries. Jonas Edward Salk was born in New York City on October 28, 1914. He graduated from the City College of New York in 1934 and earned his doctorate in medicine from New York University's College of Medicine in 1939. While in medical school he had worked with Thomas Francis Jr. on killed-virus immunology studies. In 1942 he joined a group at the University of Michigan working on a vaccine against influenza. The vaccine was perfected in 1953. In 1947 Salk became associate professor of bacteriology and head of the Virus Research Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. There he began working on the polio vaccine. Three viruses caused polio, and a vaccine had to be effective against all of them. By 1952 Salk had developed such a vaccine and conducted field tests on children. His findings were published in 1953, and a mass field test was done the next year. On April 12, 1955, the vaccine was released for use in the United States.
