Edge 2022 (Took it from above to clarify that it's correct on edge!)
Read this excerpt from Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novella Notes from the Underground:
I have been going on like that for a long time — twenty years. Now I am forty. I used to be in the government service, but am no longer. I was a spiteful official. I was rude and took pleasure in being so. I did not take bribes, you see, so I was bound to find a recompense in that, at least. (A poor jest, but I will not scratch it out. I wrote it thinking it would sound very witty; but now that I have seen myself that I only wanted to show off in a despicable way, I will not scratch it out on purpose!)
Which part of this excerpt most clearly reveals that the narrator has monstrous qualities?
A. I only wanted to show off . . .
B. I was rude and took pleasure in being so.
C. I was a spiteful official.
D. I did not take bribes . . .
The part of the excerpt which most clearly reveals that the narrator has monstrous qualities is the one we find in letter B: I was rude and took pleasure in being so.
Dostoyevsky often explored his characters' self criticism by having them describe what they were like in detail. Like in "Crime and Punishment", where Raskolnikov has noble virtues and makes plans to kill an old lady at the same time, the narrator of "Notes from the Underground" also seems positively appealing to the reader, since he portrays himself as a victim of circumstances, who had some monstrous features as a way to defend himself from a cruel world. What seems monstrous about the aforementioned part of the excerpt is that not only did he know he was rude, he also stated to enjoy it, and lots of rude people out there have no idea they are so.
Answer:
B. I was rude and took pleasure in being so.
Explanation:
Dostoyevsky frequently investigated his characters' self analysis by having them portray what they resembled in detail. Like in "Crime and Punishment", where Raskolnikov has respectable excellencies and makes arrangements to kill an old woman in the meantime, the storyteller of "Notes from the Underground" additionally appears to be emphatically engaging the peruser, since he depicts himself as a casualty of conditions, who had some tremendous highlights as an approach to safeguard himself from a merciless world.
What appears to be colossal about the previously mentioned piece of the extract is that in addition to the fact that he knew he was inconsiderate, he likewise expressed to appreciate it, and bunches of impolite individuals out there have no clue they are so.

Is there a quote in Julius Caesar that shows him wanting power and that's why he wants to kill Julis Ceasar
Final answer:
Shakespeare's play 'Julius Caesar' does not directly show Caesar seeking power; instead, it portrays the conspirators' fears of his potential tyranny. The character Brutus compares Caesar to a dangerous serpent's egg that must be destroyed before it hatches into a threat to Rome's freedom.
Explanation:
The student is asking for a quote from Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar that shows someone's desire for power as a motive for killing Julius Caesar. However, the character of Caesar himself does not express a desire for power in the play; instead, it is the conspirators, such as Brutus and Cassius, who believe that Caesar's ambition will lead to tyranny and thus justify their plot to assassinate him. In Act 2, Scene 1, Brutus says, "And therefore think him as a serpent's egg / Which, hatched, would as his kind grow mischievous, / And kill him in the shell." This metaphor suggests that Brutus views Caesar as a potential threat that must be eliminated before he can consolidate power and become a dictator. While Caesar's historical figure did seek power and became a lifelong dictator, Shakespeare's play focuses on the perceptions and motivations of his killers more than on Caesar's own lust for power.

In his speech, Douglass explains his viewpoint that it would be wrong for him to participate in Independence Day festivities when others are still enslaved. Which quotation provides valid support for Douglass's reasoning? A.) “To forget them, to pass lightly over their wrongs, and to chime in with the popular theme, would be treason most scandalous and shocking, and would make me a reproach before God and the world.” B.)“I have better employments for my time and strength than such arguments would imply.” C.)“O! had I the ability, and could I reach the nation’s ear, I would, to-day, pour out a fiery stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke. D.)“I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim.”
The correct quotation that provides valid support for Douglass's reasoning is A.) To forget them, to pass lightly over their wrongs, and to chime in with the popular theme, would be treason most scandalous and shocking, and would make me a reproach before God and the world
This quotation directly supports Douglass's viewpoint by expressing that it would be a betrayal to the enslaved individuals if he were to celebrate Independence Day without acknowledging their plight. Douglass feels that to ignore the injustice and join in the celebrations would be morally wrong and would cast him in a negative light before God and society. It underscores the idea that celebrating freedom while others are enslaved is hypocritical and unjust. Quotation A is the most appropriate choice as it explicitly states why Douglass believes it would be wrong to join in the Independence Day celebrations while slavery persists.

Why were Zlata and her father afraid for Zlata`s mother`s life?
Answer:
Zlata and her father were afraid for the life of Zlata's mother because they were living a very dangerous situation with little chance of survival. Because Zatla's mother was a much loved person, they were afraid that she would die.
Explanation:
Zlata Filipović is the author of the book The Diary of Zlata, in which she recounts the horrors she witnessed during the war in Sarajevo from 1992 to 1995.
During her childhood in Sarajevo, Zlata, the only daughter of Malik and Alica Filipovic, used to take piano and singing lessons in the choir, liked to play tennis during the summer and ski during the winter.
Unlike many friends and family who left Sarajevo with the arrival of the war in 1992, Zlata and her parents made the decision to stay together. The way of life became primitive, without water, electricity or gasoline, and food supplies were extremely limited. At the time, UNICEF was urging the children to keep their diaries during the war to show their work. Through Zlata's school, her diary was discovered and selected for publication in 1993. Almost immediately, the diary received enormous publicity and Zlata was proclaimed the "Anne Frank of Sarajevo," a title that always left her uncomfortable because, unlike Anne , she was fortunate enough to survive. Zlata and her family took refuge in Paris in December of 1993. After spending a season in England, they moved to Dublin, Ireland.

Read the passage.
excerpt from "Why Equal Pay Is Worth Fighting For" by Senator Elizabeth Warren, April 17, 2014
I honestly can't believe that we're still arguing over equal pay in 2014.
When I started teaching elementary school after college, the public school district didn't hide the fact that it had two pay scales: one for men and one for women. Women have made incredible strides since then. But 40 years later, we're still debating equal pay for equal work.
Women today still earn only 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, and they're taking a hit in nearly every occupation. Bloomberg analyzed Census data and found that median earnings for women were lower than those for men in 264 of 265 major occupation categories. In 99.6 percent of occupations, men get paid more than women. That's not an accident; that's discrimination.
The effects of this discrimination are real, and they are long lasting. Today, more young women go to college than men, but unequal pay makes it harder for them to pay back student loans. Pay inequality also means a tougher retirement for women. . . .
For middle-class families today, it usually takes two incomes to get by, and many families depend as much on Mom's salary as they do on Dad's, if not more. Women are the main breadwinners, or joint breadwinners, in two-thirds of the families across the country, and pay discrimination makes it that much harder for these families to stay afloat.
Women are ready to fight back against pay discrimination, but it's not easy. Today, a woman can get fired for asking the guy across the hall how much money he makes. Here in the Senate, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act to give women the tools to combat wage discrimination. It would help ensure that salary differences have something to do with the actual job that they are doing, and not just because they are women.

Drag the claim that best supports each of Warren's arguments into the correct box.
The passage presents several claims that support Senator Elizabeth Warren's argument for equal pay for equal work, including the gender pay gap, the impact of pay discrimination on families, and the prevalence of pay discrimination across different occupations.
Explanation:The claim that best supports Senator Elizabeth Warren's argument in the passage is that women today still earn only 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, and they're taking a hit in nearly every occupation. This claim provides evidence for the existence of the gender pay gap and supports Warren's argument that equal pay for equal work is worth fighting for. Another claim that supports Warren argues that women are the main breadwinners, or joint breadwinners, in two-thirds of families across the country, and pay discrimination makes it harder for these families to stay afloat. This claim highlights the real-life consequences of pay discrimination and emphasizes the importance of addressing the gender pay gap. Finally, the claim that men get paid more than women in 99.6 percent of occupations supports Warren's argument by illustrating the pervasive nature of pay discrimination across various industries and occupations.

Which sentence in this excerpt from Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement uses figurative language as an implicit persuasive device?
In some parts of the South we work in the fields from sunup to sundown for $12 a week. In Albany, Georgia, nine of our leaders have been indicted not by Dixiecrats but by the federal government for peaceful protest. But what did the federal government do when Albany's deputy sheriff beat attorney C. B. King and left him half dead? What did the federal government do when local police officials kicked and assaulted the pregnant wife of Slater King, and she lost her baby?
It seems to me that the Albany indictment is part of a conspiracy on the part of the federal government and local politicians in the interest of expediency.
I want to know, which side is the federal government on?
The revolution is at hand, and we must free ourselves of the chains of political and economic slavery.

It is necessary to understand the use of persuasive language in writings. Persuasive language is used by some writers to call the readers' attention, to make them think or behave in a particular way.
"Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement" is a novel written in 1998 by John Lewis with Mike D'Orso and it tells one of the most important records of the American Civil Rights movement. In this excerpt, John Lewis, the main character, is giving a speech, sending the message that Civil rights advocates cannot expect the federal government to promote justice.
In this speech, Lewis is presenting all the facts about how government disregards the Civil rights in order to support his ideas. At the end he tries to persuade his audience by saying "The revolution is at hand, and we must free ourselves of the chains of political and economic slavery." By saying such phrase he is trying to make the audience think and take action. He wants them to take part in the revolution and stand up for themselves. He, therefore, is persuading them to do what is best for them and to protect the Civil Rights.
is a way of writing poetry that appeals to the elements in the natural environment.
Nature Imagery is a way of writing poetry that appeals to the elements in the natural environment.
Nature Imagery refers to the speaker's use of words or figures that involve elements of nature (Leaves, trees, mountains, flowers, etc.) with the purpose of creating a vivid mental picture by aiming to any of our five senses (Hearing, taste, touch, smell, and sight).
A good example of the use of nature imagery is found in the following poem Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Describe the overall mood, atmosphere, or underlying idea of the following excerpts and list the author's words that have connotations that contribute to that mood or idea.
He was leaning against the ledge of an open lattice, but not looking out: his face was turned to the interior gloom. The fire had smouldered to ashes; the room was filled with the damp, mild air of the cloudy evening; and so still, that not only the murmur of the beck down Gimmerton was distinguishable, but its ripples and its gurgling over the pebbles, or through the large stones which it could not cover. (Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, Chapter 34.)
Answer:
The following passage grants us insight into the misery of the character. This is verbally confirmed via the phrase "interior gloom." The character is experiencing raw emotions to the extent that he does not care for external stimuli, he is entirely focused on processing whatever it is that is ailing him. Authoress Emily maximizes the melancholy atmosphere by using the terms: "the room was filled with the damp, mild air of the cloudy evening", "the fire smoldered to ashes", "and so still." These connotations all point toward the depression of the muse. Its a heavily negative atmosphere.

The correction option for me is the D can´t.
Explanation:
Italics are a style of typeface. They´re commonly used for the titles of works in books, movies, and videogames. And also to put emphasis on keywords and phrases in a sentence, like the question above. In the answer, we must put emphasis on which word the editor doesn´t want to be used.
Option A doesn´t seem correct for me because of the use of quotation marks is for words in another language or to add the exact words of another person used in the text.
