Answer 2

The Utopian socialist factory owner from Great Britain who worked to improved conditions for his workers was Robert Owen.

Robert Owen ( 1771-1858), was a Welsh textile manufacturer, a social reformer and one of the founders of Utopian socialism and the cooperative movement. He wanted to improved the daily working conditions of factory workers and establish socialistic communities. He rejected the competitive business and wanted to create working communities where ' one man's gain' would not be 'another man's loss'.

In 1824, Owen traveled to America where he created an experimental socialistic community at New Harmony, Indiana. This experiment lasted for only two years.

Upon his return to Great Britain, Owen continued working as an advocate for the oppressed working class. He was also involved in trade unions movement and supported the passage of child labor laws and free education for all.

9.Provide 1 example of how the Supreme Court has changed the Constitution.
10.Provide 1 example of how Congress has changed the Constitution.
11.Name and describe two methods of ratifying amendments of the Constitution.
13.Which amendment in the Bill of Rights is the most important and why?
15.How are our 1st amendment rights limited?

Answers

1. One case is when they introduced the ratification time of an amendment. Although it's not specifically mentioned in the constitution, the congress is allowed to give a time period in which an amendment has to be ratified or it doesn't get added to the constitution. This didn't exist before 1933 when the supreme court decided that the congress can have a designated time period if they so desire and the constitution has had this option since then.

2. The congress changed the constitution numerous times through the introduction of amendments to the constitution. When the congress creates a new amendment and passes it, they send it to the states for ratification. The latest amendment that got ratified was the 27th which became a part of the constitution in 1992.

3. The two methods are that a supermajority of the members (two thirds) in both the senate and the house of representatives accepts the proposal, or the second is that a supermajority vote of a national convention called by Congress at the request of the legislatures of at least two-thirds states, which is 34 at this moment. The second option has never been used, but it exists as an option.

4. This would definitely be the first amendment. It establishes people's freed of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom to write and submit petitions, as well as prevents the country from enforcing a certain religion on its people through the establishment clause of the first amendment.

5. First amendment rights are limited in cases such as hate speech. If a person spread hate speech which incites or provokes violence then the first amendment might not apply. During various war periods throughout history, the first amendment did not apply to those who spread anti-war messages according to the sedition act and these people would be often put on trial for treason.

Final answer:

The Supreme Court has effectively changed the Constitution through interpretations, such as establishing judicial review in Marbury v. Madison. Congress has amended the Constitution by proposing changes like the 19th Amendment, allowing women to vote. The First Amendment is critical for protecting freedoms, with certain limits to safeguard public order and rights.

Explanation:

The Supreme Court does not change the Constitution directly but interprets it in a way that can effectively change its application. For example, the landmark case of Marbury v. Madison in 1803 established the principle of judicial review, allowing the Court to declare laws unconstitutional, thus affecting how the Constitution is understood and applied.

Congress can propose amendments to the Constitution, which requires a two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate. An example of Congress changing the Constitution is the passing of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, significantly altering the document.

There are two methods for ratifying amendments: three-quarters of state legislatures must approve an amendment, or three-quarters of state-ratifying conventions must agree. Both methods ensure that changes to the Constitution are widely accepted across the states.

The Bill of Rights is vital as it protects fundamental freedoms such as speech, religion, and due process. While all amendments have significant value, the First Amendment is often seen as the most important because it safeguards the essential liberties of expression and belief.

The First Amendment rights are limited to ensure that the exercise of these rights does not infringe on the safety and rights of others. Restrictions include laws against libel, slander, obsenity, and speech that incites imminent violence or illegal actions.

Answers

The Bill of Rights consists of the first ten amendments of the constitution. These amendments help to protect civil liberties (aka freedoms) for citizens and prevents a tyrannical government structure. The interpretation of these amendments (what they actually mean) is constantly changing today. One thing that all of the original ten amendments have in common is the fact that they were purposely implemented based on past experience.

For example, the freedom of religion is a freedom that many people came to this country for when colonization began. This is still a reason people come to America today, as our structure provides for the freedom to practice the religion of your choice.

Along with this, the framers put in other freedoms like the right to assemble. This concept was based on their organization/meetings held prior to declaring independence from Great Britain.

All of these amendments are still needed today to ensure that America remains a government by the people and for the people.

Industrialization in the northeast produced great benefits and also major problems. what were they? who benefited and who suffered? did the benefits outweigh the problems, or vice versa? what about industrialization in the south?

Answers

In the Northeast, industrialization was huge tot he economy of the northeast. The short growing season meant that the people needed some way to make money during the colder months. Manufacturing was a perfect fit. It would bring about greater specialization and allow for more goods to be created faster and at a cheaper price by fewer people. This meant the common laborer with no real set of skills could gain employment running a machine or performing one certain task everyday for their entire shift. The business owners also benefited. They could employ workers at a very cheap price. They would also employ women and children at an even cheaper price. This push for work led many people to leave farms and go to the cities where the factories were. This migration led to many cities to be overwhelmed and overpopulated. This led to diseases and sickness to be easily spread. Housing was hard to find and resulted in the creation of tenement housing.
The common laborers while benefiting from steady work also suffered from terrible work conditions. Many of them doing the same monotonous work often led to terrible accidents. Some workers would lose fingers, arms, or legs. Those even more unfortunate would lose their lives. The laborers also had to work long shifts, usually a minimum of 12 hours. Hygiene in the factories, especially meat factories was anything but sanitary and acceptable (See Upton Sinclair's The Jungle).
Industrialization and the benefits or problems really depends upon which side you were on. Consumers and business owners saw the benefits outweighing the problems. Cheaper prices and goods that more easily attainable allowed them to over look some of the "problems." Laborers however may have viewed it initially as a good thing until the realization that they could be forever damaged or dead. However, often by that point, they were in despite need of a job to care for their families that they had to take the job despite the dangers.

The South saw little need to industrialize. Some manufacturing was set up, but it was small scale. The money was in the farming of cash crops like tobacco or cotton.

The biggest benefit of the industrialization of the Northeast was the optimization of the economy, while the biggest problem was the overpopulation in the cities.

We can reach that answer through the following information:

Industrialization in the cities of the Northeast allowed a high production of manufactured products, which generated a strong profit and optimized the local economy. This allowed the cities to be managed with good resources, in addition to reducing the rate of unemployment and poverty. However, this attracted people from around the world, who moved to cities in the Northeast and overpopulated the region.Despite having good economic resources, the cities did not have the structure to support so many people, which ended up creating social problems.Entrepreneurs did not suffer from these problems, as their profits allowed them to have a very well-structured life. However, the working class had to huddle together in places without structure, without hygiene, and with a high proliferation of diseases.

The benefits did not overcome the problems, but created more problems, as the profit-hungry entrepreneurs did not take into account labor rights and worsened workers' lives, paying unfair wages and promoting dangerous environments.

Regarding the industrialization of the South, we can say that it happened more slowly, as the Southern States relied more on agriculture than on industry. This caused the Southern states to have more economic problems and slow development.

Answers

McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010), is a landmark decision of the Supreme Court of the United States that found that the right of an individual to "keep and bear arms" as protected under the Second Amendment is incorporated by the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment against the states.
Final answer:

The U.S. Supreme Court in McDonald v. Chicago ruled that the Second Amendment is applicable to the states through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision built upon the earlier District of Columbia v. Heller case and meant state laws regarding gun control could potentially be affected, though not all state regulations are unconstitutional as rights are not absolute.

Explanation:

In McDonald v. City of Chicago (2010), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment, which grants the right to keep and bear arms, is fully applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment's Due Process Clause. This was a significant extension of the Court's earlier decision in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), where it was determined that a handgun ban in Washington D.C. violated the Second Amendment. The McDonald ruling meant that the Second Amendment rights were not solely applicable to the federal government, but also to the states, thereby impacting state gun control laws. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in McDonald v. Chicago that the individual right to keep and bear arms applies to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. This case expanded on the previous decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, which found a handgun ban in D.C. unconstitutional. The Supreme Court's ruling in McDonald v. Chicago established that the right to bear arms is a fundamental right that can be protected against state regulations.

However, this did not mean that all state regulation of firearms would be unconstitutional, as the Supreme Court, in subsequent cases such as the 2015 San Francisco gun control law case, suggested that gun rights, like other rights protected by the First Amendment, are not considered absolute and could be subject to certain regulations.
