Which of the following lines foreshadows Romeo's tragic end?

A. What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, Retain that dear perfection which he owes Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name which is no part of thee Take all myself.

B. But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief, That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.

C. 'Tis almost morning; I would have thee gone: And yet no further than a wanton's bird; Who lets it hop a little from her hand, Like a poor prisoner in his twisted gyves, And with a silk thread plucks it back again, So loving-jealous of his liberty.

D. O God, I have an ill-divining soul! Methinks I see thee, now thou art below, As one dead in the bottom of a tom Either my eyesight fails, or thou look'st pale.

I believe the answer is A
Answer 2

D. O God, I have an ill-divining soul! Methinks I see thee, now thou art below, As one dead in the bottom of a tom Either my eyesight fails, or thou look'st pale.

Juliet says this line as she is watching Romeo leave after their wedding night. She literally says that she feels as though she sees him lying dead in the bottom of a tomb. She describes him as looking pale. The next time Juliet sees Romeo, he is dead and in a tomb. He isn't too pale though since he only just died. This line of hers foreshadows his death. However, we've known since the prologue he was going to die. What's interesting in this play is that Shakespeare constantly reminds the audience through the characters' dialogue that Romeo and Juliet are going to die. However, many people feel that maybe, just maybe, their book will end a bit differently with the two lovers riding off into the sunset. This never happens.

What is wrong with the second and third sentence is that there is no comma before the dialogue, and the "Some" in the second sentence should not be capitalized. "Harrison Bergeron" and the excerpt from "The Veldt" discuss how the theme of paranoia over control by technology is demonstrated in Postmodernist literature. How do these authors feel about technology? What is their warning?

Answers

Postmodernist literature, including "Harrison Bergeron" and "The Veldt," often conveys a fear of technology's potential to dehumanize society and exert control, highlighting the need for ethical considerations alongside technological advancements.

The stories "Harrison Bergeron" and the excerpt from "The Veldt" discuss the pervasive theme of paranoia over control by technology that is evident in Postmodernist literature. These authors, much like their peers in dystopian fiction, convey a deep concern about the unchecked advancement of technology and its potential to dehumanize society and erode personal freedoms.

They warn that technological progress, without the necessary ethical considerations, could lead to a dystopian future where technology exerts inordinate control over human life, leading to the suppression of individuality and freedom.

The authors depict a world where humans become overly dependent on technology, and in turn, that technology becomes a tool for oppressive control. This thematic warning is echoed across various works of literature, where the relentless march of modernity, paired with technological advancements, has the potential to overshadow moral and ethical considerations, creating a dehumanized society.

Through this lens, technology is not merely a benign tool, but a force that could potentially manipulate and dominate human life, exerting a panoptical control that mirrors the authoritarian despots and ruling powers explored in other dystopian narratives like those depicted in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four or Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

the love he has for his father -- and the conflict he feels when he chooses to shoot his father

Answer:

I would say that the description of the horseman's gaze helps the reader foreshadow that the father knows his final fate is at the bottom of the cliffs. The answer would be C.

Explanation:

I chose C because, by reading the excerpt, the reader can understand that when looking into his son's eyes, the horseman sees compassion, but also bravery, so I think that what's going to happen is that the son will in fact shoot his father, but not without pity. I think he knows that's what he has to do and does it, but not without compassion for the relationship.

He was most fifty, and he looked it. His hair was long and tangled and greasy, and hung down, and you could see his eyes shining through like he was behind vines. It was all black, no gray; so was his long, mixed-up whiskers. There warn't no color in his face, where his face showed; it was white; not like another man's white, but a white to make a body sick, a white to make a body's flesh crawl—a tree-toad white, a fish-belly white. As for his clothes—just rags, that was all. He had one ankle resting on t'other knee; the boot on that foot was busted, and two of his toes stuck through, and he worked them now and then. His hat was laying on the floor—an old black slouch with the top caved in, like a lid.
