Answer 1

I was told to do a speech on a topic that I chose. Well today I am going to talk about something called love. But what is love? Love is used everyday by everyone everywhere. To some, love is just a game, in which the main goal is to make someone fall in love with them, or destroy a love that a person has with another person or thing. Love makes you feel special, happy, and strong. For some people, this is their reason for living. If love never existed, then why would someone put themselves through stress for someone they don’t even value? Love is the reason Jesus sacrificed himself for us. Without his existence, no one could be alive today. If love did not exist, students would not succeed, patients would never survive, houses would never be built, and nature itself would be destroyed. Without love, life can not go on. Love isn’t just about hugging, kissing, or worshipping. Love is also about caring with all of your heart, respect, appreciating someone or something, and trying your best no matter what. Love is something precious, something that brings us lasting happiness. It’s something worth pain and tear, despair and stress. Love is amazing and should be cherished and loved forever. Do you remember when you were a kid, and something good happened? What did your parents say? They said “Good job, Kid!”. Love was there. When you think that you have nothing left, there will always be someone there to love and hold you no matter what. You may not know the person, or that person might not even be alive anymore, but no matter what, there is always someone there to love you and someone there for you to love. To love someone isn’t just a strong feeling. It’s a decision, a judgement, and a promise. Love is not something that should be taken lightly. In my case, love is like a volcano, and later on with time, that volcano erupts, and when it does erupt, and the burning lava called guilt has subsided, then you have to make a decision. You must decide whether or not the roots of the relationship don’t get burned. It’s your choice to make sure that whatever gets burnt, can not only be healed, but can withstand the fire. This is LOVE. love is knowing someone’s weaknesses and loving them just the same as you would without that weakness. When a temporary love between two people end, it’s not the end of the world. Most people think it is. They go into a dark room, lock the door, and cry, hoping that their knight in shining armour comes to rescue them from this dark, empty and bottomless pit they are falling into. Those people can’t see anybody, they want to think that for some reason nobody loves them, that they are not good enough. They think that they are truly alone. The truth is, you’re never alone. There’s always someone watching over you, someone there to pick you up when you fall, to put the pieces back together when you’ve been broken. There will always be someone there to guide you back on the right path, and someone will always be there to hold your head above the water and lead you to the shore. THAT IS LOVE! It may not be easy to understand, but it is easy to feel. It’s easy to love the wrong person. Love is something that no one will ever know the real meaning of. In the beginning of this speech, I asked, “What is love?”.  Well I can answer that in three simple words. Love Is Forever.

hope this helps

Final answer:

Effective illustrative writing and creating clear instructions can be approached by a mathematician through an analytical lens, using examples drawn from problem-solving experiences. Continuous writing and repetition of phrases can help overcome writer's block, while crafting instructions can be seen as formulating a clear algorithm. Emphasizing clarity, brevity, and meticulous editing are key tactics in writing comprehensive and concise English compositions.

Explanation:

Writing a composition using the illustrative pattern demands that the writer employs a number of examples to elucidate or support the main idea. As a mathematician asked to venture into the English territory of creative writing, one may feel like a fish out of water. However, the same logical reasoning and meticulous attention to details can be the mathematician's best assets in conquering this challenge.

Consider an illustrative composition on the importance of logical reasoning in everyday life. A mathematician could draw from their rich understanding of problem-solving to create illustrative scenarios. For example, they could depict how a mathematics principle can be applied to a logistical challenge in a business setting, or showcase through a narrative how algorithmic thinking can help in planning daily activities efficiently.

While the act of writing may seem daunting, continuous practice with perseverance is key. If you get stuck, remember the advice to simply repeat a phrase until your mind starts flowing again. It might sound silly, but even writing something as basic as, "I'm stuck, I'm stuck, I'm stuck," can surprisingly jog your brain into action and new ideas may begin to surface.

Constructing Clear Instructions

When tasked with composing a set of instructions, a mathematician may visualize this as creating an algorithm or a step-by-step proof for a theorem. Select a familiar task, such as baking a cake or solving a Rubik's cube, and break it down into simple, actionable steps. Aiming for clarity and conciseness, do not forget to include a visual representation — perhaps a flowchart or diagram.

When considering scientific writing, remember that while creative flair is appreciated, clarity and brevity are prized. Cut down on the fluff, be direct, and always aim to proofread multiple times. This not only ensures accuracy but also enhances readability and the overall quality of your work.

Engaging in Practice

If you find yourself grappling with the word count, think of this as a drafting phase where you can write freely without self-editing. Later on, you can refine your work with substantive additions or revisions during the editing phase to reach the desired word count while ensuring that your writing remains substantial.

Answers

Our football coach gathered us together. He told us to run laps, lift weights, and then scrimmage.

^^is the correct answer

Final answer:

To correct the coordination issue in the sentence about the football coach's instructions, the repetitive and unnecessary 'and then' phrase was eliminated. The sentence was revised to: 'Our football coach gathered us, instructed us to run laps, made us lift weights, and finally, we had to scrimmage.' This revised sentence maintains the information, reduces redundancy, and improves coordination.

Explanation:

The sentence in question: 'Our football coach gathered us together and told us to run laps, and then he made us lift weights, and then he said we had to scrimmage.' suffers from faulty coordination due to the repetitive use of 'and then'. Rewriting this sentence helps to correct the coordination issue and increase readability.

A possible revision could be: 'Our football coach gathered us, instructed us to run laps, made us lift weights, and finally, we had to scrimmage.' Here, the revised sentence maintains the same information but reduces redundancy and improves coordination.

Furthermore, the coordination amongst actions can often be improved by the use of other connectors, such as 'after that', 'subsequently', 'finally', etc. These phrases provide a clear, linear timeline of events, improving the structure and clarity of the sentence.

What is an infinitive and what is a split infinitive?

Answers

Infinitive is the basic form of a verb. It consists of a verb TO and the verb itself. For example: to read, to sleep, to dance, to play, to imagine, etc.
On the other hand, a split infinitive is when you introduce a word between TO and the verb, and thus interrupt the natural flow of the infinitive.
For example: to really like something, to boldly do something, etc.

An infinitive is a verb in its basic form that sometimes functions as a noun and is usually preceded by to in English. For example, to run, to think, to imagine, etc. A split infinitive occurs when a word, usually an adverb, is placed between the verb and to (for example, to quickly run, to barely imagine, to freely think). Whether to support your claims, although you will be able to get away with that if your audience is young, that is very grimy, and definitely not going to be the answer, as school should encourage you to always do that anyways

In what order to present your ideas, well you should always put the most compelling evidence first,

Pudge

Pudge is an American bulldog with a lot of personality. Like most American bulldogs, he has a rather square head with ears that seem somewhat on the small side for such a massive cranium. His ears are indicative of his mood.

Pudge has an impressive vocabulary for a dog, though clearly he gets frustrated when his family does not understand him. His “give me food right now and no one gets hurt” bark, however, is unmistakable. Occasionally he displays an understanding on par with at least the average high school senior, especially if the language in question involves eating poultry or going for a walk.

Pudge does not like to deviate from his routine. As soon as anyone gets up, he gets up, too, and utters his feed-me bark. Once he eats, he has to go outside and patrol the backyard. (sorry for all the reading)

She started to cheer up when she saw the beaches, but that didn’t last long. Our twin little brothers, who often egged each other on to bad decisions, made possibly their worst choice ever: testing how many days they could spend at the beach without wearing any sunscreen. Answer: not even one full day before they were so lobster-red that we had to go to the emergency clinic! After that, the beach was off limits. It was totally ridiculous that I couldn’t go swimming just because they were too silly to wear sunscreen. I wasn’t going to make that mistake. But it didn’t matter. Mom decreed, “No beach for anybody.”

So lucky me, I spent my vacation watching Hawaiian TV and eating take-out food, rubbing lotion on my brothers’ blisters and watching my sister sniffle and text her boyfriend. What a vacation! Next time I visit Hawaii, I think I’ll go alone.

1. d-Phrases like “worst choice ever” and “too silly” convey her frustration.
The narrator's frustration with her brothers, and the fact that she blames them for part of ruining her vacation is clear here.

2. consuming
Eating is a very bland word, it doesn't give much indication on how hungry she was or excited she was about the food. Consuming is equally as bland a word.

Word choice throughout this piece shows the extreme emotional bias the narrator has towards the vacation.

Answer is A. She is frightened by Addie's tears.

Because in the story, she left the room quickly because Addie was crying:

“She’s crying!” She turned a bright, burning face up to the first old woman.

“That’s Addie for you,” the old woman said spitefully.

Marian jumped up and moved toward the door.
