Read lines 15-21 and describe the contrast that Swanson draws between Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis

Answers

Answer: Hence, the basic difference is that Abraham Lincoln stands for the Union while Jefferson Davis is for the Confederacy. The former is known as a leader that had a very hard time controlling his people and subordinates, specifically his Cabinet members.

Explanation:  I just got that question and answered it :)

Final answer:

Swanson contrasts Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis by describing Lincoln's challenges with political parties versus Davis's struggles with states' rights advocates, particularly over policies like conscription and taxation.

Explanation:

In the text provided, Swanson contrasts Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis during the Civil War era by highlighting the different kinds of political opposition they faced. Lincoln contended with opposition from within established political parties whereas Davis faced challenges from states' rights advocates who had earlier supported secession. States like Georgia and North Carolina, led by their governors Joseph E. Brown and Zebulon Vance, resisted Davis's policies on various fronts, including the handling of the Bread Riots, conscription, taxation, and the suspension of habeas corpus.

Write an argument about whether it's better to volunteer with an environmental group in your community or a national group.

Answers

In modern life, I think we all have had that desire to make a huge change/ impact in a community, especially since we have all been cooped up in quarantine for the past couple of weeks. But, first of all, if you have been wanting to make a change, how are you going to do that while trapped in the confined living space known as your house? Well, the first thing I'd say to do is to think about how you want to help. If I could suggest anything I'd say you should volunteer for an environmental group, but how are you going to decide between volunteering for an environmental group in your community, or a national environmental group.  There is an abundant amount of reasons for why it is better to volunteer for a local group, but I am only going to discuss the ones that stick out to me the most. Those reasons are that a small group of people versus a big group of people will make more of an impact on the community, and that it makes people want to keep their community clean.

First thing's first, let's talk about how it is better to volunteer in a community group because a small group of people will make more of an impact on the community than a big group of people. An article by FrontStream about "How community service impacts more than just the community" states that "Volunteering not only makes an impact on the greater community, but it impacts your family and friends directly... This will teach them that giving back is not only the right thing to do, but helping others and the environment is investing in their future. It’s also a nice opportunity to create group volunteer events, which you and your friends can participate in to make an even bigger impact." It's what I would call a chain reaction. Once someone sees another person doing something impactful, it's just their natural instinct to do the same. A study by Psychology today found that "copying the behaviour of the majority is a sensible, adaptive behaviour." If that is the case, then that means that if you are volunteering for a local environmental group, then it will make more people in the community want to volunteer, causing more of an impact in a community than a national group.

The next topic that should be discussed is that it is better to volunteer in a local community because it influences people in the community to continue to keep there community clean. Again, this is similar to the chain reaction discussed in the previous paragraph. A 2011 report, “Social Impact of Volunteerism,” published by the Points of Light Institute state a numerous amount of ways in which volunteering promotes civic engagement. One of those ways being how it makes others feel obligated to continue to keep their community clean. If people see that a specific area is covered in filthy garbage, they are more likely to litter themselves, but if they see that an area is squeaky clean, they will most likely take the time to find a garbage can, and throw out their junk. Many years ago I was walking down the street in a slightly ghetto community, and there were wrappers covering the grass. I hate to admit it, but I decided to follow the trend of littering, and just throw a single candy wrapper on top of the already covered grass. I didn't feel bad about it because other people where doing the same, and never though twice about it, but when I was walking in the downtown area, everything seemed to be in it's perfect place. There were no wrappers in sight, so I ended up spending the extra time to find a bin. This is why it is better to volunteer in a local community. Volunteering in a local environmental community has the ability to influence people in the community to continue to keep it clean.

With all these facts about how it is better to volunteer with an environmental group within a community, there has to be some pros for volunteering with a national group, right? You see, if you volunteer for a national group you are likely to meet many people which is awesome, and you will be able to help out more communities, but what you have to realize is that  you are just 1 out of the thousands of people who also volunteer for that national organization. Don't forget, you'd have to travel a lot too. With these as factors, it makes better sense on why volunteering for a local environmental group is the preferred choice.

Now that we have established that volunteering for a local environmental group is better than volunteering for a national one because a tiny group of people will make more of an impact on the community, and seeing a clean community causes people to want to keep their community clean, I think we know what we should do after this pandemic passes. The time to volunteer is soon. So, let's strap our boots on and get ready to make a huge impact. The cleanliness of your local community is in your hands. Good luck.

i you know the latin prefix pre means before you can probably guess the meaning of the word prehistoric which word in this sentence can help you figureout whether your guess was correct

Answers

The word 'before' in the sentence suggests that 'prehistoric' means before written history, relating to a time when there were no written records by humans. The term covers periods like the Paleolithic and Neolithic and is not derogatory but indicates the absence of written documentation before around 3000 BCE.

The word in the sentence that can help you guess whether your assumption about the meaning of prehistoric is correct is 'before.' The Latin prefix pre- indeed means before, aligning with the definition of prehistoric, which refers to times before the existence of written records by humans. Prehistoric eras, such as the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods, provide valuable information about the ancient history of human societies despite the lack of written language.

It is essential to note that the term prehistoric is not pejorative; it simply relates to a period before written history was established, which is roughly marked as before c. 3000 BCE in the West. This term covers a vast expanse of time, including when early humans displayed remarkable innovation with the creation of tools during the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age. The discovery of new evidence, such as early forms of written language, has the potential to shift our understanding of these prehistoric times.

Answer:What inference can you make about The Giver's perspective on his community based on his dialogue and demeanor in chapter 13? Cite text evidence in your response. ... Based on The Giver's dialogue and demeanor, he does not believe the community has made the right decision to move to Sameness.

Explanation:

The Giver views the decision-makers in the community negatively. During his interaction with Jonas, he expresses some doubt and critique of their decision-making abilities and believes they lack wisdom.

He also verbally attacks them by saying “They no nothing,” when Jonas tries to share how he learned about how the mind works. The Giver has disdain for the community because he and he alone understands what the community has sacrificed. In addition, he is alone in his ability to process, understand, and exist with the memories, which likely leads him to be lonely and angry about his situation.

The Giver’s dialogue demonstrates that he does not view what he does as living. Instead, he tries to explain to Jonas that his life is made up of the memories that, to him, are experiencing life. This also signifies that The Giver has an understanding that no one else not even Jonas, yet has. Because he says that his life is in his being, where the memories are, we can infer that The Giver does not believe that the members of Jonas’ community can truly live and experience life.

a woman talking to a group of eager listeners

a man listening to a woman tell a story

Answers

Answer: a woman talking to a group of eager listeners or the 4th answer

Answer:

B. A woman talking to a group of eager listeners

Explanation:

Examine the scene. We see that this woman is the only one talking at the moment, and we can tell that she's not alone because of the parenthetical phrase that says "she looks around the circle of faces", indicating that she's surrounded by at least a small crowd of people. Based just on this, we can already eliminate A and D because those choices involve only one or two people.

Now, the woman is talking about Mr. Goodman and a certain characteristic of his that is quite peculiar. Clearly, if she is talking about Mr. Goodman, she can't be talking about herself or her life story. Thus, we can eliminate C.

Hence, the answer is B.

Hope this helps!

In John Steinbeck's novel "Of Mice and Men," George and Lennie were run out of Weed due to a misunderstanding that led to a grave incident. Weed was a small town where George and Lennie briefly worked before the events of the novel. The trouble began when Lennie, who has a childlike and uncontrollable obsession with touching soft things, inadvertently touched a young woman's dress without her consent. Lennie did not have any malicious intent, but his immense strength and inability to understand social boundaries caused the situation to escalate.

The woman accused Lennie of assault, and when the townspeople learned about the incident, they formed a mob to seek vengeance. George and Lennie had to flee to avoid being lynched or facing legal consequences. George knew that this pattern of trouble often followed them due to Lennie's limitations, but he also recognized the goodness in Lennie's heart.

This incident sets the stage for the novel's main narrative as George and Lennie move from place to place in search of work and a stable life, while George takes on the role of protector and caregiver for Lennie.

Also determine the total depreciation expense for the four years by each method. The following columnar headings are suggested for recording the depreciation expense amounts: Jennifer ran 356 m more than Tyler. Tyler ran a distance of 2 km 30 m how many total meters did Tyler and Jennifer Run 3 divided 4 is 3/4. What is 1/4 of 3 When a constant force acts upon an object, the acceleration of the object varies inversely with its mass 2kg. When a certain constant force acts upon an object with mass , the acceleration of the object is 26m/s^2 . If the same force acts upon another object whose mass is 13 , what is this object's acceleration Consider two medical tests, A and B for a virus. Test A is 95% effective at recognizing the virus when it is present but has a 10% false positive rate (indicating that the virus is present, when it is not). Test B is 90% effective at recognizing the virus, but has a 5% false positive rate. The two tests use independent methods of identifying the virus. The virus is carried by 1% of all people. Say that a person is tested for the virus using only one of the tests and that test comes back positive for carrying the virus. Which test returning positive is more indicative of someone really carrying the virus? LUCalculating Kinetic EnergyA conveyer belt moves a 40 kg box at a velocity of 2 m/s.
