How has social media made it easier for false news to spread and deceive people ?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Speed and quality of the news.

Explanation:

Social media have had an enormous impact on the spreading of news in two main ways. The first is the speed at which news can now be transmitted. There is practically no delay between the original publication of a piece of news and its arrival to any part of the world.

The other factor is quality. Social media has facilitated the spread of fake and false news that can go viral simple because it is shared so many times. People are far more likely to believe something that looks official and that has been shared by a friend than to investigate the validity of the content.

Answer:

Explanation:

It helps if you read it out loud to yourself so you can hear the awkwardness of the incorrect sentences :)

The correct option is D) After the argument ended, Phillip marched straight into the kitchen, methodically opened the cabinet and threw with ferocious force one of their best China plates onto the floor. This option uses commas correctly to separate clauses and phrases in the sentence, thereby clarifying the sequence of actions performed by Phillip.

Commas are important for understanding the structure of a sentence and the relationship between its different parts. In the sentence provided, commas help to separate the introductory clause ('After the argument ended') from the main clause and to set off nonessential phrases. Option D correctly places a comma after the introductory phrase and before the gerund phrase ('methodically opened the cabinet'), which follows the main independent clause. This structure ensures that the sequence of actions is clear and the sentence is easily readable. Proper comma usage is crucial within complex sentences to avoid confusion and provide clear meaning.

Explanation:

Pardon is a synonym of forgive, so I tried to put a synonym of scarce to complete the analogy.

if it's not that, try maybe scant or exiguous.

if it's not those maybe try using thesaurus and type in scarce!

Final answer:

Analogical reasoning is being applied to the word pairs in this question. The relationship 'Pardon' means to 'forgive' can be paralleled by the relationship 'scarce' is to 'plentiful'.

Explanation:

The question appears to use analogical reasoning, where a relationship between words is identified and applied to another pair of words. The first pair of words has an understood relationship where 'Pardon' means to 'forgive'. If we apply the same reasoning to the next pair 'scarce', we need to understand which word shares a similar relationship with 'scarce'. So, the appropriate word to match should be plentiful, operating on an opposite principle. Pardon:forgive is as scarce:plentiful.

Like Sancho, Cugoano is trying to become a widely read

Answers

Answer:

Like Sancho, Cugoano is speaking out against the  horrible practice of slavery.

Explanation:

The excerpts for both literary pieces are-

It is therefore manifest, that something else ought yet to be done; and what is required, is evidently the incumbent duty of all men of enlightened understanding, and of every man that has any claim or affinity to the name of Christian, that the base treatment which the African Slaves undergo, ought to be abolished; and it is moreover evident, that the whole, or any part of that iniquitous traffic of slavery, can no where, or in any degree, be admitted, but among those who must eventually resign their own claim to any degree of sensibility and humanity, for that of barbarians.

( From Thoughts and Sentiments on the Evil of Slavery by Ottobah Cugoano)

I am sure you will applaud me for beseeching you to give one half hour's attention to slavery, as it is at this day practiced in our West Indies.—That subject, handled in your striking manner, would ease the yoke (perhaps) of many—but if only of one—Gracious God!—what a feast to a benevolent heart!—and, sure I am, you are an epicurean in acts of charity.—You, who are universally read, and as universally admired—you could not fail.

(From Letters of the Late Ignatius Sancho, An African. )

Both excerpts of the passages show that the authors of both hold the same view on the evil of slavery. Cugaono states that "the base treatment which the African Slaves undergo, ought to be abolished;" while Sancho also holds the same view "ease the yoke (perhaps) of many". Both individuals raise the issue of slavery and the need to break free of such practice, and bring about the freedom and liberty of the slaves and their future generations.

The way in which the purposes of Cugoano and Sancho are similar is that Like Sancho, Cugoano is speaking out against the horrible practice of slavery.

What are Cugoano and Sancho saying?

Ottobah Cugoano was arguing against slavery by stating that the treatment of enslaved people was not sensible or humane and so it should be abolished.

Sancho for his part, also argued against slavery by insinuating that it was not godly. This shows that both people had the purpose of arguing against slavery in their writing.

The culture of the characters in "In the Time of Butterflies" includes
a) Speaking Portugeuse and telling stories in the yard
b) drinking guanabana juice
c) playing basketball
d) none of the above

Answers

Final answer:

The culture of the characters in "In the Time of Butterflies" does not include speaking Portuguese, telling stories in the yard, or playing basketball. The novel is set in the Dominican Republic, where Spanish is spoken, and it focuses on the political activities of the Mirabal sisters, which do not involve the options provided (d).

Explanation:

The culture of the characters in "In the Time of Butterflies" by Julia Alvarez does not include speaking Portuguese and telling stories in the yard, as this is not relevant to the culture depicted in the novel. The correct answer to the question is (d) none of the above. The novel is set in the Dominican Republic, where the main language spoken is Spanish, not Portuguese. The Mirabal sisters, around whom the story revolves, are known for their involvement in the underground movement against the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, and their activities do not include playing basketball as a cultural trait. However, elements like drinking guanabana juice could be part of the Dominican culture, but it is not specifically highlighted as a cultural trait in the novel.

In the context of cultural behaviors and practices, we can look at how the usage of the Spanish language and engagement in local customs and political discussions are significant in the Dominican culture, similar to other Latin American cultures. For example, the detailed passage describing Caitlin's experiences in Madrid gives us insight into the cultural nuances of Spain, where Spanish is also spoken, and highlights the importance of language and social customs in shaping cultural identity. In contrast to the suggestion in the question, the characters in "In the Time of Butterflies" engage in activities that reflect the complex political and social fabric of their time and place, such as clandestine meetings and distributing revolutionary pamphlets, which are significant to their narrative.

Read this paragraph from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Well, three or four months run along, and it was well into the winter now. Final answer:

Mark Twain's purpose in this paragraph is to entertain readers with Huckleberry Finn's disinterested take on education (d), particularly mathematics, by using his character to convey this comically indifferent attitude.

Explanation:

The author's purpose for including this paragraph in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is to entertain readers with a story of a disinterested student. Twain uses the character of Huck to highlight his skepticism towards education, specifically mathematics. Through Huck's voice, Twain is able to convey a humorous and relatable anecdote that reflects Huck's indifferent attitude towards learning more than the basics, dismissing the subject as not particularly valuable in his life. While the paragraph does touch on the subject of mathematics instruction and one-room schoolhouses, these details primarily serve as a backdrop to the narrator's voice and experience. Twain's choice to have Huck say "six times seven is thirty-five", which is actually incorrect, further emphasizes Huck's disinterest and lack of concern for his educational shortcomings, offering a critical reflection on his schooling experience without earnestly addressing the value of formal education.

How effectively does Roosevelt’s discussion of domestic issues helped him build his case for helping other countries

Answers

Final answer:

Roosevelt's discussion of domestic issues in his fireside chats effectively built his case for international involvement. His accessible language allowed the public to understand complex issues and sympathize with struggling nations. This is particularly evident with the New Deal initiative, where he framed American overseas involvement as an extension of the compassionate government he was promoting at home.

Explanation:

Roosevelt's discussion of domestic issues in his "fireside chats" played a crucial role in building his case for assisting other countries. These radio addresses were strategic opportunities for Roosevelt to connect with the American public and justify his foreign and domestic policies. His ability to describe these complex issues using simple, accessible language did not only help laypeople understand economic and political matters, but also allowed him to convey the urgency and importance of the United States assisting other nations.

An example of this technique is clear in his New Deal initiative. While this was primarily a domestic policy addressing the economic problems of the Great Depression, the way Roosevelt communicated it established a legacy of a government that cared about its citizens and would actively intervene to assist them. This same proactive, compassionate perspective was used to pitch international involvement -- if the U.S. government was working to take care of its own citizens, it made sense that they would extend help to struggling nations as well.

Moreover, in the backdrop of a looming second World War, Roosevelt's talking points often included international relations and the necessity for American aid. This rhetoric reflected a genuine concern for global stability and peace, and allowed Roosevelt to frame American involvement overseas as being in alignment with the principles he was promoting at home.

During the Quidditch match, Harry is hurt by an enchanted ball on purpose by Dobby to send Harry back home.  A first-year student is found in a petrified condition. In a meeting of the dueling club, Harry shocks all by talking in a snake’s language to a snake. It is unusual as he is not a Slytherin.

The suspicion of the next two incidents falls upon Harry.  Harry and his two friends decide to find the culprit. They prepare a magical potion ‘Polyjuice’ and meet Malfoy to know the secret behind the secret Chamber. Nothing helps much.

Harry finds a diary in the broken toilet belonging to Moaning Myrtle, a  girl ghost. Harry writes in the diary and the diary magically responds. He meets Tom Riddle who had once accused Hagrid of opening the chamber of secrets. Hermoine is also petrified and the other two meet Hagrid.

After their adventure in the forbidden forest with the giant spiders and their discovery that Moaning Myrtle was killed by the Monster, from a piece of paper in Hermoine’s hand they come to the conclusion that the chamber is a basilisk. Ginny Weasley is taken to the Chamber of secrets. The passage is discovered by harry and Ron with Lockhart. Harry enters the chamber and finds that Tom Riddle is the young Voldemort. Harry calls Dumbledore for help. A hat arrives producing a sword. He kills the snake with the sword and uses the basilisk fang to puncture the diary killing Tom. Dobby is freed by Harry. Everythig gets normal at Hogwarts.
