After the end of the Gulf War, Jordan immediately made efforts to improve relations with Washington, engaging in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which brought the expected results. Since then, Jordan has consistently pursued American policy, in return being one of the largest beneficiaries of US financial assistance. Under the influence of Washington, in 1994 Jordan concluded a peace treaty with Israel as the second Arab state to do so. It also supported the war on terrorism and the American invasion of Iraq in 2003.
