Answers

Answer 1

Hamlet and Laertes show significant differences. One of the themes is represented in the father-son relationship that both characters have. Whereas Hamlet lacks a relationship with a parental figure, Polonius demonstrates a lovely relationship with Laertes and gives him beautiful pieces of advice when leaving Denmark. The other theme from the list is thought versus action. Hamlet tends to think a lot before taking action and Laertes is more a man of action.

Paine here, in this excerpt, wants to convince and reuse the American people that they need to take control over their territory.

Paine comperes the situations Americans are in with the conquest of William the Conqueror who conquered England in 1066. He took control of the country by force and gave them his law as Paine says "at the point of  the sword". England is now doing that to the colonies in Paine's view. They can't decide anything for themselves and are at the mercy of the British king.

Answer: Paine's purpose is to convince Americans to seek freedom from British rule as soon as possible. He wants people to start fighting for America's independence before it’s too late. He reminds them, "When William the Conqueror subdued England he gave them law at the point of the sword." Paine doesn’t want America to have the same fate that England suffered under the rule of William the Conqueror.

Read the excerpt from "American Indian Civil Rights.” Over the years, American Indian activists have valiantly fought for reform and for the government to honor certain treaty obligations. Sarah Winnemucca, a member of the Northern Paiutes tribe, campaigned for better living conditions for her tribe in the late 1800s. She lectured around the country in an effort to increase support for her cause. Physician and lecturer Charles Eastman, who was part of the Sioux tribe, also strove to improve the circumstances of American Indians in the early 1900s through public speaking and serving in organizations such as the Society of American Indians.

What is the best reason to conclude that the author wants the reader to admire American Indians?

The author uses words, such as “valiantly,” that have strong emotional connotations of courage and respect.

The author repeats the word “tribe,” which places American Indian communities in a positive light.

The author uses the metaphor “physician and lecturer,” which emphasizes a feeling of authority.

The author makes an allusion to “the early 1900s,” which creates a sense of the significance of American Indians.

I believe the correct answer is the first statement. The best reason to conclude that the author wants the reader to admire American Indians is by using words such as “valiantly,” that have strong emotional connotations of courage and respect because those words are used especially when things are difficult or the situation gives no cause for hope.

The correct answer is A) The author uses words, such as “valiantly,” that have strong emotional connotations of courage and respect.

The author is clearly using positive adjectives to describe the American Indians Communities to show respect towards their actions in history. They are emphasizing the bravery that the Tribes had (and still have) during the fight for the government to honor the obligations states in the treaty.

What is a gymnasium?

A gymnasium is a term in various European languages for a secondary school that prepares students for higher education at a university. It is comparable to the US English term preparatory high school. Before the 20th century, the gymnasium system was a widespread feature of educational systems throughout many European countries.

In Central European, Nordic, Benelux and Baltic countries, this meaning of gymnasium has been the same at least since the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. The term was derived from the classical Greek word gymnasium, which was originally applied to an exercise ground in ancient Athens.

Here teachers gathered and gave instruction between the hours devoted to physical exercises and sports, and thus the term became associated with and came to mean an institution of learning.

Answer:

D. a counterclaim to the idea that most people are moral.

Explanation:

In this excerpt, Glaucon tells a story of greed and ambition. He tells us that there was a man who once found an enchanted ring. This ring allowed him to become invisible. Once had the power, he could not see a reason to continue to follow laws or morality. He became a terrible man, taking advantage of the ring in order to perform all of his terrible deeds. The excerpt demonstrates that power is addictive, and that very few men would act righteouly if they were not being watched. This supports the idea that most people are not moral.

Theodore Dreiser's An American Tragedy is an example of which of these literary traditions? realism romanticism modernism naturalism

Answers

naturalism is the answer

Answer: The right answer is naturalism (D).

Explanation: Although Theodore Dreiser's powerful novel An American Tragedy can be also described as modernist and realistic, to an extent, it is more accurately an example of naturalism, a type of literature that was practised by various American writers, such as contemporaries Jack London and Theodore Dreiser, and, later on, John Don Passos, among others. Naturalistic writers studied and analyzed their characters, and the passions, instincts, and external forces that influenced their often desperate and violent actions, from a very rational, objective, detached and almost scientific perspective. For that reason, naturalistic works tend to be pessimistic and dramatic, as they revolve around the themes of survival, violence, struggle, and guilt, among others. An American Tragedy tells the story of a young, handsome and ambitious, yet poor and naive, man who, together with his friends and girlfriend, gets involved in a lethal car accident and resolves to flee his hometown. A wealthy relative gives him a chance, but his thirst to become someone soon gets him into trouble. He gets a girl pregnant, but as he becomes popular among some of the women of the wealthy class he soon wishes to get rid of her. He takes her for a boat ride and, although he does not feel ready to kill her, he "accidentally" hits her and she falls to the water and drowns. He is eventually sentenced and executed.

what quality does the spider signify, according to the Osage tribe??

Answers

Spiders were important creatures in Native American mythology. They frequently appeared in the myths of several Native American tribes, including the Navajo, the Hopi, and the Lenape.

Depending on the tribe, the spider could be a trickster character, but most often they were seen as benevolent creatures associated with intelligence. Native Americans used weaving in their daily lives, and, because spiders are great weavers themselves, the Native Americans shared a special connection to them.

In the Osage tribe, they had a particular story called "The Spider and the People." In this story, the chief goes out to find a symbol for his people. He is following some tracks when he stumbles right into a gigantic spider web.

The spider questions him about what he is doing, and the chief explains he is looking for a symbol for his people. The spider says she could be a symbol for his people, but the chief initially dismisses this idea. He does not believe a spider would be a good symbol for his people because spiders are so small and, in his mind, inconsequential.

The spider corrects him. She explains that although she is strong, she is patient. She does not need to go out and catch her food -- she is patient and the food comes to her. She explains that patience is a good thing for people to have, and therefore she would be a good symbol for his people.

The chief considers the spider's words and realizes the spider is correct. The chief was rushing along and ran right into the web. The spider, who was patient, caught a chief without even needing to move. Therefore, the chief agreed, and the spider became a symbol for his people.

As a result, spiders are a symbol of patience.

"She is a well known player" contains a punctuation error because there must be a hyphen between "well" and "known". Different dictionaries, such as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Collins Dictionary, state that the correct way of writing it is "well-known". The first sentence is correctly punctuated as well as the last one. Moreover, the third sentence does not contain a punctuation error because the hyphen between "well" and "known" has been added.

Final answer:

William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, written in 1597, explores the tragedy of two lovers caught between feuding families. The climax of the play profoundly highlights the devastating outcomes of hate, serving as a moral lesson. Each adaptation brings new perspectives through direction, casting, and audience interaction, proving the work's timeless appeal and the importance of Shakespeare in education.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a timeless piece that has been interpreted in countless ways since its inception in 1597. The play tells the tragic tale of two young lovers, Romeo and Juliet, who, despite the bitter feud between their families, strive to be together. The climax of the play occurs when Juliet, still alive but in a death-like sleep, is found by Romeo in her tomb. Unaware of her true state, Romeo, in despair, kills himself. Juliet awakes to find Romeo dead and, unable to live without him, takes her own life as well. This poignant moment highlights the theme that hate only leads to tragedy, a moral delivered by Friar Lawrence at the play's resolution. Furthermore, the character of the Nurse provides a foil to Juliet, bringing warmth and earthiness that enrich the play's emotional depth. Every production of Romeo and Juliet offers new interpretations, from the casting and directorial vision to the audience's unique reactions, illustrating the play's enduring relevance and adaptability.

The importance of Shakespeare in the curriculum, notably his work Romeo and Juliet, underscores not only the universal themes present in his plays but also the rich language and complex characters that offer students insights into human emotion and societal issues. It serves as an essential exploration of love, conflict, and consequence, themes that remain pertinent across centuries. The character of the Nurse and the dialogue adjustments for modern audiences are among the elements that make each rendition of Romeo and Juliet distinctive while retaining the core story that has resonated with millions over the years.

After Hercules committed the sin of murdering his family, he was assigned 12 heroic labors by the Greek god (god's name not provided) in order to rid him of the guilt of killing his family. These labors were a form of punishment and a way for Hercules to seek redemption for his actions. The labors included tasks such as slaying the Nemean Lion and the Hydra, capturing Cerberus, and obtaining the apples of the Hesperides.

After Hercules committed the sin of murdering his family, the Greek god Zeus assigned 12 heroic labors to Hercules in order to rid him of the guilt of killing his family.

The 12 labors were a series of difficult tasks that Hercules had to complete as a form of punishment and redemption. These labors were meant to test Hercules' strength, courage, and resourcefulness. By successfully completing these tasks, Hercules would prove his worth and regain his honor.

Here are the 12 labors of Hercules:

1. Slay the Nemean Lion: Hercules had to kill a ferocious lion whose hide was impervious to weapons.

9. Obtain the girdle of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons: Hercules had to retrieve the magical girdle of the Amazonian queen.

10. Obtain the cattle of the monster Geryon: Hercules had to steal the prized cattle of the three-bodied monster Geryon.

11. Steal the apples of the Hesperides: Hercules had to acquire the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides, which were guarded by a dragon.

12. Capture and bring back Cerberus, the three-headed dog of the underworld: Hercules had to venture into the realm of the dead and capture the fearsome Cerberus.

By successfully completing these 12 labors, Hercules not only proved his strength and bravery but also redeemed himself for the terrible crime he had committed.

What is the significance of making a piligrimege

A Pilgrimage is a journey or search of spiritual significance,  It is a result in a greater sense of our life's purpose. Pilgrimage helps to illuminate the journey of life by helping us to focus on 'what really matters' , it is a regular routine to concentrate or focus on our spiritual life. It could result in knowing life's purpose.

A pilgrimage can be different for everyone.  Thus, the importance (or significance) of making a pilgrimage will always vary.  The thing to keep in mind, however, is that a pilgrimage will almost always go beyond “face value.”  What does that mean?  Well, if one makes a pilgrimage to the Statue of Liberty, he or she will not just be going for the sake of going to see the statue.  A pilgrimage will always hold a deeper meaning because the location/destination will be important in some regard (spiritual, moral, sentimental, or even historical).  That said, if person has ancestors who arrived in the United States through Ellis Island, to see the location and same statue his or her ancestors saw could be so important to him or her that he or she made it point to visit the Statue of Liberty.  Thus, the visit to the Statue of Liberty wouldn’t just be a visit for visit’s sake, it would be a pilgrimage because of how the location is of particular importance to the person making the journey.

Without specific context, the answer to what the man calls the psychiatrist cannot be determined from the provided content.

The question 'The man calls the psychiatrist a (1 point)' cannot be accurately answered without specific context from the source material. Based on the various excerpts provided, there are different descriptors used for characters that might be analogous to the psychiatrist's role. These include a possible reference to a healer of the sick, an implication of someone capable of understanding the universe as with a philosopher's treasure hunt, and a characterization of an individual who can be seen as preying upon society, akin to a psychopath. However, none of these excerpts clearly match the options provided (thief, fool, genius, miracle). Therefore, without additional context or a specific reference to the material that the question is derived from, providing an accurate answer is not feasible.

(MC) Read the following excerpt from the article "Vision, Voice and the Power of Creation: An Author Speaks Out," by T. A. Barron and answer the question that follows: Right now, I am spending a lot of time listening to the voice of a particularly compelling character: the young Merlin. In the end, I finally heard the voice of Merlin thanks to a surprising source: the haunting, mysterious hooting of a great horned owl outside the window of my Colorado home. As I listened to that owl's resonant [echoing] call in the pre-dawn hours one morning, something about it gave me a whole new cadence [rhythm], a whole new sound. And then, a whole new voice. In this paragraph, what is the author's explicit message about his inspiration for Merlin's voice? (10 points) He had difficulty finding Merlin's voice. His inspiration was the owl outside his window. His old ideas were not working for Merlin's voice. He spent a lot of time thinking about Merlin's voice.

If you look at the excerpt you've been given, he spends the majority of it discussing how he "heard the voice of Merlin from a surprising source." Continuing to read, you see that he heard this through the hooting of the owl outside his window. Using this when we read the question, we can use process of elimination to determine what the best answer is. Each of these answers rings true, but if we use our textual evidence--his discussion of the owl-- we see that the second answer--His inspiration was the owl outside his window--is the best answer for this question. While the other three answers do apply, they are not the best answer since we cannot know how hard he struggled or how long he struggled.

Lets start by explaining what a Figure of Speech is:  A Figure of Speech is a word or phrase using figurative language, that has  other meaning than its normal definition.

The Fall and Rise of Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel 4

This narrative story is about the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar,  from approximately 605 BC until approximately 562 BC.  He is considered the greatest king of the Babylon Empire and is credited with the construction of the Gardens of Babylon. In Daniel 4, Nebuchadnezzar is given another dream by God interpreted for him by Belteshazzar (Daniel) in which a warning to the king to be humble and recognize that his power, wealth, and influence were from God. Even after this interpretation he was still self-glorificating himself of what he thought he achieved by his own means so he would not recognize his pridefulness and be humble; therefore, he “was driven from men and dwelled with the beasts of the field”. (v.32)

Some figures of speech we can find in this story are:

Adjunction:  A clause or a phrase, that is added at the beginning of a sentence.

Daniel 4.1:   Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages,… Peace be multiplied unto you.

Hperbole:  It is used to exaggerate something.

Daniel 4.11: The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven

Synecdoche: a part is used to represent a whole (times=years)
